The first trailer for Avatar 2 (Avatar: The Way of Water) has been revealed during the movie Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Avatar 2 is currently scheduled to release on December 16, 2022, in theaters across the globe.

The first teaser trailer (watch above) of Avatar 2 gives us a glimpse of Pandora and the Sully Family. We see Sam Worthington's Avatar character Jake Sully and Zoe Saldaña's Neytiri. At the beginning of the trailer, the people of Pandora seem to be living peacefully, but it ends teasing another battle/war probably with the Human aliens, who have occupied their land. Avatar 2 is the story of the Sully family and what they do to keep their family together. The family will go out and explore the many regions of Pandora, including spending a lot of time on, around, and in the water.

Avatar: The Way of Water is set more than a decade after the events of the first film, and it tells the story of the Sully family, the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure.

The cast of the film also includes CCH Pounder, Cliff Curtis, Jamie Flatters, Trinity Bliss, Sigourney Weaver, Jemaine Clement, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore Bailey Bass, Britain Dalton, Dileep Rao, Michelle Yeoh, Stephen Lang, Vin Diesel, Brendan Cowell, Duane Evans Jr., and Kate Winslet.

James Cameron has directed the film based on a screenplay written by Josh Friedman. Cameron and Jon Landau are the producers with 20th Century Studios and Lightstorm Entertainment production companies behind the film. Walt Disney Studios is the distributor.

The sequel has seen a lot of delays since it was announced after 2009s Avatar, which became the all-time top-grossing movie to date. Avatar 2 was supposed to release in 2014, but the multiple delays with production and the script keep delaying it until 2017 when it finally began production. The film was again scheduled for a December 2021 release, which was later moved to 2022 due to the ill effects of the pandemic.

Avatar 3 has also completed production and is currently set to release on December 20, 2024. The film will be followed by two more sequels on December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028, respectively. Both of them are yet to begin production.
