After the wheredrama that unfolded in the previous episode, the penultimate episode directly cuts to the Vault. Bernard Holland confronts Camille Sims and the Algorithm. He offers a deal: he will publicly take the blame for the unrest, his own survival, the deaths of Judge Meadows, Mayor Jahns, and Deputy Marnes, and other crimes. In exchange, he wants Juliette released, the memory-suppressing drugs stopped, and a controlled narrative that rehabilitates the silo. The Algorithm rejects most of it. It wants Bernard sent out to Clean, Juliette kept imprisoned, and the water doping to continue.
Bernard notices something off in the Algorithm’s tone—irritation that sounds human. He and Camille speculate it may not be an AI at all, but a person using voice modulation. Camille later outlines her larger plan: after the latest unrest, drug the entire population to wipe recent memories, then rebuild society with a small number of “guides” (including Juliette) who keep their memories during the transition. Camille intends to keep her own memories. She also makes clear she plans to have Juliette killed once she is no longer useful.
Juliette is being held in seclusion with Robert Sims. Camille retrieves her and tries to use her remaining authority as mayor. Juliette pretends to cooperate, steals a safety pin from Camille’s desk, and is later forced to tell the rebels heading toward Water Filtration that the water only contains Vitamin D. She privately refuses to become part of Camille’s long-term scheme.
In the before times, Helen and Daniel attend Stensen’s silo presentation in Atlanta after an OB-GYN visit. Attendees are assigned to specific silos; Helen is directed toward Silo 18 and Daniel toward Silo 1. The separation is treated as suspicious. Victor casually reveals that the original Pact was written by an AI and only edited by him and Anna. Charlotte has joined the project as a drone pilot.
Meanwhile inside the Silo, Paul Billings, warned by Hank, meets the remaining Outsiders (Shirley, Knox, Carla, Teddy and others) at Martha’s. Bernard’s planned Cleaning is intended as a diversion. Paul reveals the secret elevator built years earlier by Knox’s father Gus and Ed Harwood that connects the mines to Supply. The group uses it to reach Level 55 (Water Filtration) so they can stop the drugs. Additional explosions in the mines provide cover and draw raiders away.
In the end, Bernard meets Juliette one last time. He tells her the Algorithm is “just some guy giving orders” behind a curtain (invoking The Wizard of Oz from a book Meadows once gave him) and that she has to finish the fight he cannot. Camille sends him outside without a suit. He shakes Robert’s hand, walks out, climbs the hill surrounding the silo, begins bleeding from the nose, and collapses near a tree. In his final moments, he sees green leaves on the branches. His death is presented as final. Camille later questions the Algorithm after the mine explosions. Juliette, who was in seclusion, denies involvement.
At the Silo pres event in the before times, Helen and Daniel grow uneasy—Charlotte’s text replies do not sound like her—and they decide to leave. They separately climb hills near their assigned silos to get phone reception, connect, agree something is wrong, and plan to reunite and get out together.
A nuclear weapon detonates several kilometers away. Henry and a guard pull Daniel toward Silo 1. Everett does the same with Helen at Silo 18. The episode cuts before confirming whether either survives the blast. Helen’s pregnancy and their assignment to different silos are left hanging as possible explanations for later family divisions between facilities. Charlotte’s absence at the critical moment is also unexplained. Who launched the weapon is not confirmed on screen.
Silo Season 3 Episode 9, “Farewell,” ends on dual cliffhangers - Bernard is dead outside Silo 18, the rebels are still trying to reach Water Filtration, and Helen and Daniel’s fates after the blast remain unresolved heading into the season finale.
