‘Commander Karan Saxena’ Hotstar Series Review - The Same Old Revenge Mission

As ISI-sponsored violence looms over the country, RAW agent Karan Saxena must rush against the clock to prevent the assaults, but conspirators hide in every shadow!

TV Shows Reviews

Commander Karan Saxena starts by telling us how an Indian soldier was freed from the Pakistan army's capture. Infuriated by this, a Pakistani soldier vows to kill the Indian soldier on Indian land itself. This leads to a cascade of actions including the activation of sleeper cells in Mumbai and a RAW agent being killed. Karan Saxena is leading the investigation with other officers of RAW.

The circumstances of the RAW agent's death are suspicious and everything points towards the involvement of terrorists from Pakistan. The question that's now left is to which level the terrorists will stoop to. It's clear that they want to disrupt the peace in the city and get to the released army officer. Let's wait and see what capabilities Karan Saxena possesses. As the series is named after this character, I didn't see much valor in the body language or even actions of the actor. Apart from this, appropriate time hasn't been used to build the character and the way it pops on our screen is laughable.

Just one episode of Commander Karan Saxena has been released on Hotstar out of twelve. The duration of this episode is 22 minutes and the same can be expected from the upcoming episodes. The premise of the series is very dull and to get a good look into the show, a wrong approach has been used. At least two or three episodes should have been released so that the audience could have gotten a good look and decide whether it'll be a nice watch or not. The amount of plot shown in this episode is too little to come to a decision yet one thing is clear it doesn't have a strong plot to make the audience yearn for upcoming episodes.

Gurmeet Choudhary as Karan Saxena has single-handedly destroyed any hopes of seeing action in the series. His opening and introductory scenes are so meek and boring that it makes you wonder if the action team put in any effort or not. Also, what is it with the dialogue? I noticed that they tried to make some conversations interesting by adding some humor still, it doesn't even touch the definition of humor. The mere exchange of words is so dull that it makes you think about the approach the writer will take in important scenes. Being a commander in RAW and having no shine in his eyes of revenge for the dead colleague makes Gurmeet’s character doubtful.

As seen till now, it is Pakistan's army's revenge vow that got the RAW officer killed, you don't have much left to think about what the series will show in the next eleven episodes. By looking at the glimpse shown for the second episode, I don't think that the writers have something unique in mind. Be it the acting or writing department of Commander Karan Saxena, everything seems to be a flop show currently and I don't have much expectations from the upcoming episodes.

Final Score – [5/10]
