Paramount has revealed the first trailer for the horror movie ‘Orphan: First Kill,’ a prequel to the 2009 hit movie, Orphan. The movie will release on August 19 in select theaters and Digital and will stream on Paramount+.

In this gripping prequel to the original and frightening horror hit, Orphan, Esther's terrifying journey continues. Esther travels to America as the missing daughter of an affluent family after successfully escaping from an Estonian psychiatric clinic. However, an unforeseen twist occurs, pitting her against a mother who will go to any length to protect her family from the murderous "child."

Isabelle Fuhrman, who was 12 years old when the original “Orphan” was released, returns as the iconic character of the 9-year-old girl despite now being 25.

In the original “Orphan” released in 2009, Isabelle Fuhrman plays a 9-year-old Russian girl, Esther, who was adopted by the Coleman family after their third child is stillborn. Esther begins to show strange adult-like and violent behavior, which puts her at odds with her adopted mother. The first film revealed a famous shock ending, that Esther is a 33-year-old adult with a hormonal imbalance that causes her to look like a kid, who has spent her life appearing as a little girl and killing the families that adopt her. The film ended with Esther being killed by the Colemans.

"Orphan: First Kill" is a prequel that will tell the narrative of Esther's (real name Leena Klammer) first victims. The film follows Leena as she impersonates Esther Mauerova, Katie and Richard's (Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland) missing daughter, and sows friction between the two as Katie gets suspicious of the "child."

William Brent Bell takes over as director of "Orphan: First Kill," succeeding Jaume Collet-Serra. The screenplay was written by David Coggeshall, and the movie is produced by Ethan Erwin, Alex Mace, Hal Sadoff, and James Tomlinson. The film is a collaboration between Paramount Players, Dark Castle Entertainment, Entertainment One, Sierra/Affinity, Eagle Vision, and Signature Entertainment, with distribution handled by Paramount Pictures.
