Netflix ‘Locke & Key’ Season 3 Review - The Locke’s Continue to be the Trouble Magnets

Based on the comic book of the same name, the third season follows the Locke family as they discover more magic to fight a new demonic foe in this epic conclusion

TV Shows Reviews

In the third season, the Locke family once again returns to fight against the demons to protect their keys from landing in the wrong hands. Tyler is going to be 18 soon, which means that he’ll not be able to remember magical things just like the other adults. So, to move away from the magic and live in peace, he goes to Montana and works there. His family misses him dearly. Nina (their mother) used the ‘Memory Key’ so that she can remember the magical events that happen around her. This helps her in getting involved with her kids. Captain Gideon and his two fellow echoes put Locke through a lot of trouble.

There is a particular pattern that is followed by Locke & Key series and the same can also be noticed in this third season. By the end of the second episode, it becomes clear what all is going on, and by the mid of the final episode, everything gets settled down. In every season, the family gets into trouble, they all come together, fight against the demons, and in the end, the Locke family wins. Some of the other keys pop out to guide them against the demons.

The third season which also serves as the final season of the series follows a similar pattern. The ending has been kept open, just in case Netflix changes its mind.

Locke & Key might not be as successful as Stranger Things which also belongs to a similar genre, it is more popular than many other contemporaries. Shows like Stranger Things constantly keep their audience on an edge, but this series has bound itself to a pattern, which doesn't give much space for creativity and freshness, and hence not much can be expected from it. There is also a huge craze about Stranger Things, but Locke & Key lacks it.

The same happens with the third season as well. The Locke family is in trouble when an echo gets released from the Well House (just like in the previous seasons). Following this, the family unites and then fights them bravely. The third season is just like the other seasons, and there is hardly anything exciting to watch.

There was a lot of transformation shown in the character of Nina and Tyler. It was great to watch Nina get involved with her kids. Earlier, she was a pretty decent mom, but now she is a badass and fighter. In my opinion, Locke & Key Season 3 can be watched by those who are already familiar with the first two seasons as they know very well what to expect from it.

Final Score – [6/10]
