Zoya is stuck in a time loop and has a black hole in her chest. She must find a way to stop this.

Movies Reviews

Zoya Lowe (Mary-Louise Parker) wakes up in a stark, sterile hospital room, surrounded by anxious doctors and concerned family members. The air is thick with tension as they break the news: a mysterious black hole is growing in the center of her chest, and she has less than a week to live. But Zoya isn't shocked. She’s heard this all before. In fact, she has lived this exact moment countless times, trapped in an unending loop that forces her to relive her final days, only to die and wake up again in the same hospital bed.

As the days repeat, Zoya becomes increasingly aware of the details—every conversation, every attempt to save her, every futile outcome. Her days blur together, and she begins to wonder if there’s a way out, some way to break free from the cycle and cure herself. But the rules of this cosmic game are elusive, and her body feels like a ticking time bomb.

One day, while revisiting her old university, Zoya crosses paths with Paula (Ayo Edebiri), a brilliant yet eccentric physics student. Paula is the only person who seems to notice something unusual about Zoya’s predicament, though she doesn’t yet understand the full extent of it. Intrigued by Zoya's tale of the black hole and her endless repetition of time, Paula sees the potential for a scientific breakthrough and offers to help.

Together, the two women devise a plan—though every experiment and hypothesis must be attempted over and over again, as Zoya is forced to reset each time. Paula helps Zoya unravel the strange, mind-bending physics behind her condition. With every loop, they come closer to discovering the nature of the black hole and its connection to Zoya's past. As the mystery deepens, Zoya begins to suspect that escaping the loop may require more than just a scientific solution. She must confront buried secrets, emotional trauma, and the choices she’s made, all of which could be intricately tied to the creation of the black hole itself.

Time is slipping away, but for Zoya, the paradox is clear: she has all the time in the world, yet none at all. Will she and Paula be able to break the cycle before Zoya's body is consumed by the singularity growing inside her? The actors in their roles do a good job of bringing the characters to life.

As previously mentioned, time loop stories are far from new. In fact, they’ve become a well-worn trope across various genres, from science fiction to romance and even comedy. Chances are, you've encountered them more times than you can count—whether it’s through the endless cycles of Groundhog Day, the high-stakes resets inEdge of Tomorrow, or the emotionally charged repetitions in Russian Doll. These stories play with the concept of time, offering characters second (or thousandth) chances to right their wrongs, solve a mystery, or break free from the trap they find themselves in. Yes sure the concept of physics added in this plot makes it interesting. But otherwise, the overall concept is the same.

If time loops are something that intrigues you, then this is the best watch. Otherwise, you can explore new stories.
