TV Shows Reviews

The Disappearance of Kimmy Diore is a new series about the kidnapping of a young girl Kimmy. She was abducted from the garage of their residential building and the six episodes of this series are about finding her whereabouts. The series is adapted from a novel and starts by showing Kimmy recording for her YouTube channel Happy Fans. Her mother can be seen asking her to redo the takes just because the energy wasn't visible. The girl complies with her mother's demands. She goes on to play with her brother but since he was playing with his friends, he left her alone in the garage after promising to play hide and seek with her. Around 5 PM, the girl gets kidnapped and the police begin an investigation for the same. It was after they started finding details about the case, that we were made aware of her popularity.

Kimmy’s mother in this serious situation was still thinking about the brand collaborations, views, and what the rival channels were doing. These things made me doubt her involvement in getting her daughter kidnapped. If she did this, it would mean more engagement of the channel which will make the family earn more money. It was through these videos that the family was earning and there was no other source of income. Turns out that the mother had other issues too. She was too controlling of Kimmy's life and put several restrictions on her. The family didn't share a good relationship and these things are revealed over time. When the revelation of who did it was revealed, I was quite disappointed with the work done by the police force. They were busy finding the culprit everywhere, even the online haters weren't spared. Why did the police not suspect the near ones when it was clear that it was someone who knew Kimmy kidnapped her? The way Kimmy got in the car at once without any fight, was a clear indication that trollers didn't need to be hunted.

Six episodes for this series feels too long when the job could have been easily done in three. The Disappearance of Kimmy Diore is a stretched series that likes to waste time on unnecessary parts of the story. Many elements don't require screen time yet time has been wasted on them. In all, this series is an average watch and you don't need to watch all six episodes to understand what's going on. A shortcut would be to just watch the first two and the last episode. Through this series, one should understand how social media and other platforms are ruining the lives of so many people and children alike. The issues of child abuse and parental pressure have been explained well. In the ending, when a man working with the Police department asks if they really saved Kimmy, it's then that the audience realizes that some people never change no matter the adversities they had to face due to their past actions.

Final Score – [5/10]
