TV Shows Reviews

Netflix came out with The Kingdom Season 2 on March 22, 2023. It released six episodes of the second and final season of the long-awaited political series. The Kingdom was quite a good series - intriguing and gives you a place to escape from the constant commotion of reality.

El Reino, also known as The Kingdom, is a political thriller that answers the epic battle between good and evil. Well, it doesn’t answer it, but it does make you think really hard about what truly is our perception of good and evil.

The show follows a high-level crew that leads the country and a smart-working team behind it. To recap a little - the religious Emilio Vasquez Pena was left as the presidential front-runner in season 1 after his running mate was assassinated by a mysterious man.

The plot of season 2 follows the televangelist Emilio Vasquez Pena as he becomes Argentina’s president. He seemingly appeared well-suited for the job in the first season, but as the events unfold in the second one, the truth unravels. He does not seem to be who he carries himself as. The twists and turns in the second season keep your eyes glued to the screen.

The cast is made up of Diego Peretti, Chino Darin, Nicolas Garcia, Joaquin Furriel, Peter Lanzani, Mercedes Moran, Vera Spinetta, Santiago Korovsky, Victoria Almeida, Alfonso Tort, Patricio Aramburu, Sofia Gala, and more.

Emilio’s political journey is followed in the second season of The Kingdom. Deigo Peretti has done an exceptional job throughout the first season and the second season is not any less. Each character’s journey and backstory are intoxicating and terrific. The performance was stunning from all actors, leading and back. The leading actor has starred in several other films and TV shows including The Heist of the Century.

Chino Darin as Julio Clamens is just as stunning in the show if not better. He was highly praised by viewers and critics for his performance in The Kingdom. He did a phenomenal job in the first season and the second was just as great.

The story follows Emilio as he is faced with challenges that he cannot seem to understand how to tackle. There are protests on the streets, and the death of a 13-year-old boy is the backdrop of the season. The police of the new government allegedly beat him to death. It leaves the audience slightly disturbed and follows an extremely powerful speech by Julio, questioning the kind of government that is ruling them all.

The Kingdom aka El Reino is a stunning masterpiece with exceptional cinematography and the perfect amount of intrigue to keep the fans watching. The second season is very well-deserved with several fans looking at the timeless lies and hardships of a governmental institution. What I personally loved about the show was the way it merged politics with religion and somehow ended up being a little of neither. The acting was powerful enough to bring me to tears at the end. It is a must-watch and one of the most underrated series on Netflix!

Final Score- [9.5/10]
