‘The Storm’ (2026) Netflix Movie Review - Plenty of Laughs, But Few Surprises

Filip and Caroline invite their friends for Filip’s birthday. However, a storm forces them inside a lodge and face uncomfortable truths.

Movies Reviews

The storm is a heartwarming tale of friends and celebration. At the centre of the plot are Filip and Caroline, a couple hosting a lavish celebration for Filip’s 45th birthday at their home. The thing is that their home also operates as a bed and breakfast. Beneath all the festivities, however, lies a much bigger concern: their business is struggling financially. Caroline hopes that Filip’s established college friends will invest in the property and help keep her dream alive of running the business.

What should have been a pleasant evening quickly becomes a nightmare. A powerful storm traps everyone indoors, and accidentally consuming magic mushrooms adds another layer of unpredictability to the gathering. This forces the situation to confront long-held grievances, secrets spilling out, and guests gradually losing control of how they present themselves to one another. There is a lot of tension in the premise that gives us awkward conversations and ridiculous situations. The more the couple tries to keep the party, the more things go out of their hands.

Though the plot is highly predictable and nothing that we haven’t seen before, it's still worth a one-time watch. The Storm fits the bait very well of “what else could go wrong” at times when everything goes wrong. However, not every time does trading in familiar waters work. There are times when The Storm becomes a bit boring. Every scene and the ending feel as if we already knew what was going to happen. In fact, it is so predictable that at one point, you won't even feel like watching the movie anymore.

There are some good times too in the movie. Wherever there is friendship involved, there is going to be comedy of errors too. So one thing is for sure: there is a lot of laughter guaranteed. The makers balanced it out by showing what it looks like when people dig out the grave and face their grief. In those times too, the plot and its narrative never fail to convey its central theme.

Flip and Caroline feel like real people. They’re messy, flawed, and not always easy to deal with—just like the rest of us. That’s honestly what makes them work. The show doesn’t try to clean them up or make their lives neat, and because of that, *The Storm* hits a lot of people on a pretty personal level.

The rest of the cast brings a lot of energy to the whole thing. Their performances feel so natural that, for most of the runtime, you kind of forget you’re watching actors. They just disappear into the roles. The big letdown, as I mentioned before, is how predictable the story ends up being. You go in hoping for something a little fresher or more unexpected, and on that front *The Storm* really misses the mark. It plays things pretty safe. That said, the new faces and the characters themselves still give it some life and keep it from feeling completely flat. It’s not groundbreaking, but there’s enough there that it’s at least worth watching once.

Final Score- [6/10]
