The upcoming sci-fi series written and directed by Noah Hawley has officially resumed filming this Monday in Bangkok, Thailand.
Sydney Chandler, the lead actress who joins the production for the first time also teased the production start through an Insta Story last week.
The series started production in July 2023 and was halted a few weeks later in August due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The production took place without any SAG-AFTRA affiliated actors including series lead Sydney Chandler. The series is now expected to film by the end of July 2024 with an eye for a release in Late 2025 on FX on Hulu.
This new Alien TV series will serve as a prequel set three decades before the events of the 1979 film Alien. Sydney Chandler will play Wendy, a woman who has the body of an adult and the consciousness of a child. Reportedly, Wendy is described as a new form of hybrid "meta-human" who combines the brain and mind of an adult with those of a kid. The description also states that she learns to operate her new body under the supervision of Kirsh, a synth and a human scientist. Another key figure is 'Hermit', a young human physician who serves in a huge corporation's private military.
The remaining cast includes Alex Lawther as CJ, a soldier, Samuel Blenkin as Boy Kavalier, a CEO, Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, Kit Young as Tootles, Timothy Olyphant as Kirsh, Wendy's synth mentor and trainer, David Rysdahl, Babou Ceesay, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille, Adrian Edmondson, and Moe Bar-El.
Created by Noah Hawley, the series is executive produced by Ridley Scott for Scott Free Productions. Apart from being a prequel to the original Alien movie, there is no confirmation of the plot of the series.
However, the next on-screen release in the Alien franchise will be Fede Alvarez's movie, "Alien: Romulus" which is set to release on August 16, 2024. The film stars Isabela Merced, Cailee Spaeny, Archie Renaux, David Jonsson, Aileen Wu, and Spike Fearn.
Directed by Ridley Scott, the original Alien movie released in 1979 follows the crew of the commercial space tug Nostromo, who discover a mystery derelict spaceship on an unexplored planetoid and are confronted with an angry and lethal alien who has been set loose on the Nostromo. The film became a cult classic spawning many sequels, prequels, crossovers, and standalone films. The original series includes four films - Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien Resurrection.
