The last episode of Last Seen is finally here, and everything is out in the open. Da, Maggie, and Jenna are still on the road while Donald and Ian are chasing them. Jenna is slowly and steadily becoming critical and is in desperate need of a hospital. Maggie tries to convince Da, but all her pleading falls on deaf ears. Meanwhile, Donald has joined hands with Ian. However, in this episode, we see that though Ian’s pursuit of Maggie is relentless, he is accepting that even if he gets Maggie back, she won’t really be his baby because so much has changed by now. Even then, the cat-and-mouse chase continues, and sadly Jenna takes her last breath. Maggie is now highly frustrated with Da and blames him for what happened.
The last episode of Last Seen does reveal a lot and also manages to close many chapters. However, it doesn’t give the thrill the way previous episodes did. Things move slowly, and it reveals little we don’t already know. In fact, to a great extent, I felt that the whole episode was quite predictable. It felt as if the makers were in a hurry to wrap things up and close the multiple arcs they created for Maggie.
Maggie's character development, however, has to be the main attraction. The way a teenager might deal with news as big as this has been done up well. For me, that was the highlight. We see her quite a bit less in the other episode, but in the last one she blows up, and that is the best part. She is no longer the child who will blindly believe anything and everything that is thrown at her. At one point, you do feel bad for whatever happened to her. She lost her adoptive mother, has to deal with a truth she never thought she had to, and worst of all, nothing works in her favor.
Apart from all this, Ian’s character, too, deserves praise. We see him go from being a heartbroken father who just wants to have his child back to a father who doesn’t know if what he is doing is right or not. He has now understood that Maggie is just her biological child. Emotionally, she has nothing from him. It all belongs to Jenna and her husband. His realizing this is sad for us too.
The pacing of the show remains moderate. Wherever needed, the makers have paused and picked up again. The pacing has been developed as per the scenes and their requirement. All of this makes Last Seen a great watch. I loved how the makers approached the show overall. Yes, the last episode deserved some attention in terms of story writing and storytelling, but this time around, if we ignore that, everything else feels and looks great. It gave us food for thought when we thought about Maggie and Ian. The cast did a great job too in bringing the characters to life. So this is a good farewell all in all.
