Chastity High has a good start and with just eight episodes I hoped that this one would be a great watch. The Japanese series about high school love and going against the rules keeps the viewers engaged in the first three to four episodes but after that things go downwards. The series starts with a unique plot and there are many interesting things happening. All episodes come with a few revelations which don't let things become boring. The series is about a school in Japan where due to a recent merger strict policies like no romantic relationships have been enforced. The rule is valid within and outside the premises of the school. Strict vigilance is maintained and the couples caught are immediately expelled. In the eyes of the administration this rule would safeguard the interests of the students and the parents yet, things turn chaotic very soon.
Kids start betraying each other and send pictures that are clicked secretly to a school website that was initially meant for counseling. This instills fear in the minds of couples and to evade this crisis, they're ready to pay a hefty sum to an unknown individual who's there to protect them. Ichica, our female lead belongs to a poor family, and due to the high debts her mother owes, she sees this rule as an opportunity to make money. The bucks earned by protecting the couples by safeguarding their images from reaching school administration, Ichica uses to pay off her school fees and some of the debts. Her mother who's a divorcee is unaware of these things and Ichica thought that it would be best to hide this. Feeling like an outsider in the pool of wealthy kids, it didn't feel wrong to her to take money as that amount was equivalent to a new dress or a lunch for these rich kids.
There are also many love stories in the series including gay romance. Asuran Academy has many hidden secrets and with a law like this, the viewers will be forced to ask if such rules seem valid in today's world. Keeping a tab on students is one thing and forcibly removing them from school is another. The principal of the Academy is very insensitive and can be seen asking very personal questions like having sexual intercourse with her students. She doesn't respect one's boundaries and even checks the gallery and messaging apps to confirm if the student in question broke any rules. Aren't such rules and strict actions unbelievable?
The various emotions shown in the span of eight episodes with a duration of 45 minutes each are praiseworthy. The high school drama is worth a watch but don't keep many expectations from it. You'll get to watch how the students tried their best and got entangled in a mess. The viewers will also get to witness sweet and innocent love stories that'll make your day. There's a slow-burn romance between Ichica and Maki (yes the famous and rich guy). Maki’s character is definitely one of the best and seeing how the characters in the series get their due consideration is good. Every character comes from a different background and Maki is someone who has beautiful layers of sadness, love, and desperation. The storyline of the series is interesting and it doesn't only involve the teens but also the adults. It was a smart decision to show the lives of these adults too as they can also make mistakes. I'm not a fan of how they ended the show and you'll see why once you watch the show. Throughout the seven episodes out of the eight, what was shown is contradictory to the statement they delivered at the end. The possibility of another season of Chastity High has been kept open.
Final Score – [6.5/10]
