Netflix has revealed the first trailer (watch above) for the sci-fi thriller movie ‘Awake.’ Starring Gina Rodriguez and Ariana Greenblatt in the leading roles, the post-apocalyptic thriller will arrive on June 9 on Netflix, Worldwide.
The film follows after a sudden global event wipes out all electronics and takes away humankind’s ability to sleep, chaos quickly begins to consume the world. Only Jill, an ex-soldier with a troubled past, may hold the key to a cure in the form of her own daughter. The question is, can Jill safely deliver her daughter and save the world before she herself loses her mind.
Mark Raso has directed the movie, off a script he, his brother Joseph Raso wrote based on a story by Greg Poirier. Mark most recently directed the Ed Harris-starring Kodachrome which sold to Netflix at TIFF 2017, and his film Copenhagen won Slamdance in 2014.
The cast of the film includes Gina Rodriguez, Ariana Greenblatt (The One and Only Ivan, Monster Problems), Frances Fisher (Unforgiven, Watchmen), Shamier Anderson (Destroyer, Endings, Beginnings), Finn Jones (Game of Thrones, Marvel’s Iron Fist), Lucius Hoyos (Heroes Reborn, The Night), Gil Bellows (Patriot, JETT), with Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, Crawl), and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Hateful Eight, Georgia).
This will be the second film to feature Jennifer Jason Leigh and Gina Rodriguez after they both appeared in 2018's "Annihilation."
Mark Gordon, Josh Phillips, Matt Jackson, Greg Poirier, Mark Raso, Joseph Raso, Gina Rodriguez, and Whitney Brown are the executive producers. Entertainment One and Paul Schiff are producing the film.
