Janelle Monáe’s ‘Antebellum’ Moves Straight to Premium VOD

Lionsgate announced the VOD release date with a new extended trailer for the film

Lionsgate is moving its time-bending horror, thriller film “Antebellum” starring Janelle Monáe, straight to VOD, the film was supposed to arrive in cinemas, August 21 but due to the rise in COVID cases, the theaters are yet to open. The film is now postponed and will arrive on premium video-on-demand services on September 18, It will be available to rent for $19.99. However, “Antebellum” isn’t entirely ignoring the big screen — it will be released in some international movie theaters.

 

Lionsgate also released an extended trailer for the film which they said is final. You can watch the trailer above.


Disney on Tuesday also shifted Mulan to a $29.99 premium VOD service on Disney+ which got a sharp reaction from the theater owners. However, “Antebellum” is following “Bill & Ted Face the Music” model, which also means along with VOD the film is also open to release in theaters if available.

 

Tenet is so far only big film which is going for theatrical release in August end outside the US and early September in the USA.

 

Written and directed by Gerard Bush and Christopher Renz, “Antebellum,” follows Veronica Henley, a successful author, finds herself stuck in a twisted reality after her abusive ex-husband incapacitates her on the way home one night. Desperate to be free of this nightmare, Veronica must navigate the unstable fantasy before her time is up.

 

The film stars Janelle Monáe, Marque Richardson II, Eric Lange, Jack Huston, Kiersey Clemons, Tongayi Chirisa, Gabourey Sidibe, Rob Aramayo, Lily Cowles, and Jena Malone.
