Based on the Korean film ‘Man in Love’, Love You To Debt is a beautiful film about a debt collector and a banker falling in love. The film has its phases of happiness and sadness yet the result is totally beautiful. The film starts with Bo, a young man who works for a loan shark. He's given the job of collecting money with interest from debtors. The method he likes to employ depicts his tendency to self-harm when nothing else seems to work. If a person refuses to pay back Bo, he hits his head with a bottle or anything else available nearby (even heavy metal objects). He's never without a scratch and you tend to feel sorry for his head. Hadn't it been for his skull bones, the creditor wouldn't have received a single payment. Bo gets involved in fights daily and that's the reason behind the loan shark’s blooming business.
One day, an old man who owes them money falls sick. His daughter, Im comes to look after him in the hospital and it was love at first sight for Bo. The girl initially avoids him and even tries to report him to the police but Bo being Bo doesn't forget the debt her father owed them. After humiliating the girl at her workplace, he finally decided to go soft on her. The scene in the bank where he's taken up all her upcoming appointments is so cute and funny. Bo makes an arrangement for repayment of debt which is like a token system. He's assorted different colors for different things like going on dates and so on. If she does that, Bo will repay her interest accordingly. Im initially go with him as a sort of compulsion. Gradually she begins to realise that he's a good man and falls in love with him.
Things weren't as smooth for this couple as Bo was involved with gangs so with a promise of a new life, he left his old one behind and started to live as a nice human being. Once you get involved in crime, there are always some elements that try to pull you back. One can not get completely rid of their old lives and the same happens with Bo. His boss called him back and the consequences of this were not good. Bright Vachirawit as Bo and Urassaya Sperbund as Im in this Thai remake has done a good job.
The film has a duration of two hours and is able to leave a mark on you. I didn't expect this one to have a sad ending and was highly disappointed with the way it ended. The charm and charisma both these actors carry are magnetic. Though Bright stole the limelight (and I'm eager to watch his other projects), Urassaya could've done a better job. The film fills your heart with emotions and the flow of story they've maintained is impressive. Love You To Debt is a decent watch and it shows the phases of love in a beautiful manner. The title too is apt for the movie and wants you to leave for more. I'm a sucker for sad endings so, this did spoil my mood.
Final Score – [7/10]
