Netflix has revealed the premiere date for ‘Selena: The Series’ Part 2, which will now arrive on the streaming service on May 14.  Netflix also revealed that the Selena Quintanilla drama was watched by 25M households around the world in the first 28 days after its December debut.

The second part will follow her life up to her untimely and tragic death, when she was fatally shot in 1995, at age 23, by the former president of her fan club. Starring Christian Serratos as iconic singer Selena Quintanilla, the show returns to conclude the story of the queen of Tejano music.

Part One of the series took viewers inside the singer's family life and growing up as part of a Mexican-American family, including living between Spanish and English language worlds. Part Two sees the singer learning how to handle her newfound success, while balancing family, love, and a burgeoning career, and chronicles the years of hard work and sacrifice the Quintanilla family navigate together as Selena becomes the most successful female Latin artist of all time.

When Selena Quintanilla burst onto the Tejano music scene in the ‘80s, her dream was to make music that celebrated both her Latin roots and her Mexican-American upbringing. She ultimately brought these two worlds together, leaving behind a timeless legacy that still resonates with generations of fans around the world,” said Francisco Ramos, VP of Latin American Originals. “We had the same hopes when we released Selena: The Series in December on Netflix. We wanted to pay tribute to the young girl with big dreams and an even bigger voice, and honor her incredible rise from performing local gigs with her family to gracing some of the world’s biggest stages.”

The show also reached Netflix’s top ten list in 23 countries including the U.S., Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Peru. Half of the fans came from the U.S., where it spent its first week in the #1 spot on the Top ten list. And the Selena excitement extended far beyond Netflix. On Spotify, her music streams skyrocketed 260% during the launch of Selena: The Series. Selena’s listeners also increased by 90% during the same period, reaching 5 million monthly listeners.

The day before the series’ release, fans also broke the Guinness World Record for the largest number of videos of people lip-syncing to the same song (“Como La Flor,” by Selena y los Dinos) uploaded to TikTok in one hour, as part of the #TodosComoLaFlor challenge.

Selena: The Series is a coming-of-age story following Selena (Christian Serratos) as her dreams come true and all the heart-wrenching and life-changing choices she and her family have to make as they navigate success, family, and music.

Selena: The Series also stars Gabriel Chavarria as A.B. Quintanilla, Juan Martinez as Young A.B., Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla, Brandol Ruiz as Young Abraham, Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla, Daniela Estrada as Young Suzette, Seidy López as Marcella Quintanilla, and Aneasa Yacoub as Young Marcella, from writer/executive producer Moisés Zamora.
