I didn't like the concept of the movie Pasutri Gaje as it's totally based upon a couple trying to conceive. The film could have been much more than that if it tried to include other subplots. The major focus was on the main leads trying to get pregnant. Though Pasutri Gaje is an easy breezy watch, it's something that you'll forget very soon. The movie isn't here to stay and there are certain things which you can't simply overlook. Take for example the girl Rani drooling over Adimas and touching him at every opportunity she got.
Reza Rahadian and Bunga Citra Lestari play the roles of Adimas and Adelia respectively. The chemistry between the male and female leads looked very adorable on screen. The movie is based on a webtoon by Annisa Nisfihani which tells us why there are lovely cartoons included in between. I liked this addition and how the characters were introduced at the beginning will make the audience think that this romcom will be worth it.
The movie falls on the cute side and was saved by mere inches from being declared cringe. I understand why they wanted to make it appear lovely as there wasn't much in the plot. The couple has been married for just five months and it took a lot of struggle for them to convince the bride's father. Now, they've been married for five months and living the life they've always dreamt of. While Adelia wants to have children, Adimas thinks that it'll be better to delay it. The reason behind this is the financial burden kids will impose on them.
When everyone around this couple starts asking questions regarding whether they've conceived or not, our main leads fall into a place of doubt. The couple finally decided to try for a child. Between these attempts, two to three subplots have been introduced like Adimas being scared of his father-in-law, another office romance, and a girl liking Adimas. Meka, a colleague of Adimas and Adelia's, has been confused between the two girls for a very long time. For his decision to be solidified, it takes Linda's rejection for him to decide to think about his future with the other girl. This can not be called love because if he had his choice, it would have been Linda.
In my opinion, Pasutri Gaje tries to succeed in the rom-com genre but fails miserably. I couldn't see the emotions the actors were trying to portray. What their characters demanded from them was ignored and they focussed on bringing cuteness to the screen. The Indonesian film can be watched by those who like a title with light subjects. The movie excels in one thing and that's discussing the dark sides of marriage in a way that doesn't make the subject too heavy.
Final Score – [6.5/10]
