TV Shows Reviews

Shekhar Home is about a little village in West Bengal and its hero Shekhar solving the crimes. While the place has always been a quiet location, recently crimes have risen and people have turned to Shekhar to help them. Even the police officers ask for his favor for solving the murder mysteries. A retired army doctor, Jayvrat has shifted to this village to gain peace. Shekhar and Jayvrat are roommates and in the first episode itself, they're out to solve a crime. The series doesn't waste much time on character development and skips on to its core theme. The first two episodes are about this village, but the further ones are set outside of it.

After a very long time, a great Bollywood series has come. I didn't start it with much expectations and to my surprise, it's filled with ingredients that the majority of the audience will like. There are a total of six episodes and these too can be divided into two parts: part one (consisting of the first four episodes) and part two (includes the last two episodes). The first four episodes are about different crime mysteries that Shekhar and Jayvrat solve together as partners. It's the final two episodes that make you see the brilliant writing and execution. As this season is left with an open ending, the possibility of a second season cannot be denied.

I'm in awe of Kay Kay Menon and Ranvir Shorey’s acting skills. I was a little skeptical about whether they'll be able to fit in the shoes of their characters and surprisingly now I don't think that anyone could've done it better. By the fourth episode, a little saturation comes into the minds of the audience because the stories aren't as interesting as they were in the beginning. Take for example the case of the ghost haunting the village, how Shekhar came to that conclusion about what happened was a bit confusing. Several moments feel rushed and you need to go back some seconds to grasp a hold of the situation.

Rasika Dugal brought charm on screen and her character from being a badass shifted into a great person in a few minutes. I liked her transformation and how her character and Shekhar always asked about meeting and the other replied that they doubted it. The chemistry was bang on and I wish that some more romantic scenes were included. The show's title is a twisted version of Sherlock Holmes and why it's this way is revealed in the last two episodes. Shekhar is the brains of the world where people think that they're too smart to escape their crimes. At times it did feel a little overdone however this Bengali version of Sherlock Holmes is here to win the hearts of the audience. Kirti Kulhari has an important role to play and hints about the same have been given since the beginning of the show.

Final Score – [7/10]
