Simone Biles, the GOAT of the world of gymnastics is here to shine a light on the recent events she faced in her life. To begin with, we have the Tokyo Olympics which will be held in 2021 (instead of 2020 as there was COVID). We get to know about her struggles and a bit about the equation she shares with her husband and parents (who were her grandparents previously).
Simone Biles Rising is an excellent effort to show what goes underneath to have groundbreaking results and accolades. Though I wasn't satisfied with how certain things were approached, now the documentary is doing fine. As there are few episodes left, I hope that we'll be fully made up instead of just talking about things superficially. The impact Simone had was discussed but it certainly has left an itch to know more about it. I want to further know about how she battled with mental health issues and I'm sure many other people will be interested in the same.
Simone Biles has been very honest and bold in discussing why she pulled out of the Tokyo Olympics. While the gymnast faced backlash at that time, she explained her side carefully. One can not feel what the poor soul went through however, you can see it in her eyes. The speculations surrounding the Tokyo Olympics being the last ones and her exiting the game at the last moment caused a lot of turmoil. Who knows to surprise the fans better than Simone? She's back for the Paris Olympics 2024 with a stronger mindset and this time nothing is stopping her.
Everyone should watch this documentary as it's worthwhile. Simone is seen starting from the basics, hitting the gym, and going to the Olympic camps. She's also been candid about the sexual abuse she and her fellow gymnasts faced at the hands of the physician. Many details haven't been revealed and let's see what more they've got to show the audience.
Footage from the World Championships and Olympics has been included and this benefits the audience who didn't know much about her. Those who are her fans will get a feeling of nostalgia and I'm positive that this girl is destined to achieve greater things in her life and this is just the beginning. Defying the age and proving that it's just a number, Simone is a role model to many.
In my opinion, this sports documentary series was successful in showing how mental health is equally important as physical health. They've said in the first episode that physical injury can be seen but what about the mental injuries one is going through? This line hits you at different levels as while one can be seen the other can only be just felt. Though the athletes might be physically sound, it's their mental health that should also be good in order to see the results.
Final Score – [7/10]
