‘Technoboys’ Netflix Movie Review - What in 2024 is this?

They’re ferocious, iconic, back, and completely gone. A boyband attempting a comeback must negotiate a world they hardly understand.

Movies Reviews

Technoboys starts with a Television program about the history of a famous pop band of the ‘90s, Technoboys, and how the band broke apart. Alan, the lead singer of this band, had a messy affair with another singer, Melena. Long story short, she married another man for money who was also the one behind Technoboys. Eventually, the band had a downfall, and the glory was shredded into pieces. Now, Alan is just a local guy with next-to-zero loyal fans. Not many come to watch his show and the album sales are also zero. George, his manager, bought the band name after it was freed of the copyright. It's now Alan's mission to bring the band together and make a name in this world. Only two questions remain here, first, will the other four guys be ready to join again, and second, will Alan be able to move over Melena?

As this 100-minute film unfolds, you'll find out that the band members have become so different than what they used to be before. Take for example Babyface who was considered cute is now bald. Leon, the hot one, is surrounded by weird sexual energy and despite being a dad to two, he doesn't refrain from making out with his wife in front of them. Freddy is in a wheelchair and Charlie is now Charlize. Among these revelations, a hidden theme has been included which is about gender spectrum, gender fluidity, and how one should accept how people are instead of demeaning them. I don't think that this topic is handled gently and if they could've taken this topic seriously then the film might have been a tad bit more bearable.

There's so much unnecessary drama and this Spanish film hovers around several unprecedented topics. You never know what's going to come next (in a bad way) and bore you more. The actors have done an okayish job and I wasn't impressed by their work. It's Melena’s character that felt relatable. It's how she pretends to be someone she's not just to gain more popularity and money. You can learn a thing or two from her. The fakeness of fighting the battles she never even had to be aware of and the influence social media has today were good topics to portray.

Technoboys also have a mystery in them. It's not impressive, but in this scenario, I'd say that every effort counts. In all, this film is far worse than one could imagine. What was with the guy who can emerge and vanish in the air anytime he pleases? The whole momentum of this boring title was shifted when Leon came into the picture again. He gave the band, manager, assistant, Melena, and Number Juan an ecstasy drug. Well, it's not told what it was but it gave everyone vomiting and truth. After having that drug, all of them realized what happened.

Final Score – [3/10]
