Movies Reviews

The Casagrandes Movie starts by introducing the viewers to the mythological tale of Punguari. After being a demigod for thousands of years, Punguari thinks herself to be eligible for the role of a god and wants to have her temple. Her mother however opposes this and says that she isn’t mature enough to handle the duties of a god.

Punguari, the goddess of the moon has a lot to learn. The same thing is proved when in a fit of rage, she used the mask to get the powers of a god. Little did the young girl know about the consequences of her decision, and ended up turning into a mountain. Her mom and dad tried to control her rage, and the result was that she had to be converted into a mountain to stop further destruction. The story however isn’t complete here as the last parts of it have been left for the ending of the movie.

Then we are introduced to Ronnie Anne. She has just turned 12 and wants to rollerskate on different terrains with her best friend Sid. Instead of spending the day with her family, she wanted to escape until the family forced her on the bus. The whole Casagrande family is going to Mexico to celebrate the festival. The audience is told about the historical significance of the same in a very interesting manner.

There is never a dull moment in the movie and there is always humor just around the corner. Now. Ronnie Anne got herself into trouble when she released Punguari from the mountain. It meant that further destruction was left to come. Punguari very cleverly uses Ronnie Anne to get back her powers. When Ronnie realizes the mistakes she has made, it is already very late, and it is at this moment that she realizes how important it is for one to listen to their mothers.

In my opinion, this fun and thriller animated film is a great choice for those looking to watch something nice this week. The film captures the essence of how kids rebel against their mothers and in the end, regret doing so.

I liked how the film flowed and every character shined on the screen. The movie has an excellent plot, and it is also a great choice for the family movie time. What could have been a bit better was the animation part at the beginning of the film. Although they improved at this part too, and there isn’t much left to complain about this mythologically and historically rich entertaining film.

Final Score – [7.5/10]
