The filming dates and the working title for the Pilot of the ‘X-Files’ reboot have been revealed. As previously confirmed, the pilot episode will be filmed in Vancouver, Canada.
The X-Files reboot (currently untitled) is a fresh reimagining of the classic sci-fi series, not a direct continuation of the original 1993–2002 run, its two feature films, or the 2016–2018 revival seasons. It has been given a pilot order at Hulu, with Ryan Coogler (director of Black Panther, Creed, and Oscar-winning Sinners) writing, directing, and executive producing.
The X-Files Pilot episode will be filmed between May 11, 2026, and June 11, 2026, in Vancouver, BC, under the working title, Alphabet Soup. Jennifer Yale is the Showrunner and executive producer, along with Ryan Coogler as writer and director. Chris Carte also serves as executive producer (original creator). The project is produced by Coogler’s Proximity Media, Onyx Collective, and 20th Television (under Coogler’s overall deal with Disney).
In the series, two highly decorated but vastly different FBI agents form an unlikely bond when they are assigned to a long-shuttered division devoted to cases involving unexplained phenomena.”
The reboot will retain the original series’ classic format, blending standalone “monster-of-the-week” episodes with a larger, ongoing mythology and conspiracy storyline. Coogler has stressed the need for genuinely scary, high-caliber episodes crafted to hook longtime fans and new viewers alike. The project is being positioned as a fresh, contemporary reimagining that refreshes the themes of paranormal investigations, government conspiracies, and institutional secrecy to echo today’s deepest anxieties.
The reboot features entirely new characters—no recasting of Mulder and Scully. The lead cast includes Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Woman in the Yard, The Piano Lesson, Watchmen) and Himesh Patel (Yesterday, Station Eleven, The Franchise) — her partner / co-lead. (The pair previously worked together on Station Eleven.) Apart from these two, there are a few other roles for which the actors playing them haven't been revealed. As per Nexus News, production was casting for characters named - SALKOW, WILLIE, JENN, JULIE, and CIMISAH, for the pilot episode.
The X-Files originally followed FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigating paranormal cases, government conspiracies, and aliens in a mix of “monster-of-the-week” episodes and a sprawling mythology arc. It defined ’90s TV with its blend of horror, humor, and conspiracy. The 2016–2018 Fox revival brought back Mulder and Scully for two short seasons but ended without resolving everything. This new project is a standalone reboot with new leads and a modern lens on unexplained phenomena, conspiracies, and government secrecy.
