Chances Are You and I is about two youngsters whose destiny made them meet after both of them suffered a huge personal loss in a car accident. After five years it's seen that Gabi and Sol live in the vicinity and have been diagnosed with a brain tumour. Sol is commonly called Helmet-boy and he's reluctant to get himself treated. Gabi on the other hand is full of life and wants to battle with this tumour. Their personalities are equivalent to day and night. While one fights every day for a better future and is bright like the Sun, the other has accepted his destiny and is waiting for the night to come. Gabi meets Sol in the medical centre which is owned by her grandfather. She also works there to earn money and one day after Sol is brought to the hospital by his friend, she finds him charming, and thus this tale of entwined fates begins.

Chances Are You and I seemed like the Filipino version of Fault in Our Stars but with a good ending. The difference between these two titles lies in their approach and storytelling. While Fault in Our Stars made every scene worth a watch, Chances Are You and I took a route guaranteeing them success yet it didn't. If you're showing a film with two individuals suffering from brain tumours then where are the emotional scenes that should've been present? Also, I didn't notice any chemistry between the leads except the beginning scenes. Starting 15-20 minutes and the last 10 minutes are good except that everything is blah. There's too much coin flipping and it makes your head spin. As an audience I understand why flipping the coin was important however this much reliability didn't suit the plot. Everything that needs to be done is decided by the coin and this concept is over utilised. These kids don't have much time to live and instead of doing things they'd like, the coin is now the master of the wishes. A better approach would've been limited utilization of that piece of metal.

Talking about the lead characters played by Kira Balinger (as Gabi) and Kelvin Miranda (as Sol), an okayish job is done. While Kelvin is hot and has the charm, Kira has an innocent face. These attributes could've been utilized however, the two sides of the coin have been given more importance. The lead characters are shown going to Korea and many famous spots we see in K-dramas have been included. If you ask me about the importance of why the writer chose to do this, I think it's because of the hype K-dramas have. There was nothing special included. I feel sad to watch such a good concept film go to vain. The ending of the film is a good one and the writers at least delivered justice here. Chances Are You and I has been named so because if you flip a coin there are only two choices and here the characters were lucky to choose both of them at the end.

Final Score – [6/10]
