Rishab Seth's Dhoom Dhaam is one of those films you don't mind watching, though, after the end credits, you may not feel very enthusiastic about it. Some scenes made me laugh, and I was in a good mood throughout the movie's runtime. Yes, Dhoom Dhaam is enjoyable but also a bit underwhelming. The story revolves around a newlywed couple on the run from two goons on their wedding night, all because of something—or someone—named Charlie. Who's Charlie, or rather what's Charlie? Is it an object, a codeword for something else, or a human being? Yami Gautam and Pratik Gandhi portray the newlyweds, Koyal and Veer, and they keep the movie interesting, exciting, and engaging. When their families meet to talk about the wedding, Koyal and Veer look at each other silently and smile. They look incredibly charming - their shy glances make you smile. Even during the wedding night, when Veer hesitates to remove Koyal's scarf, you chuckle at his timidity. Gandhi has an effortless comedic side. He doesn't "act" funny; he becomes funny naturally. Gautam, on the other hand, shines when she's allowed to be eccentric. With her leg on the accelerator and hands on the steering wheel, Gautam's Koyal drives the car like a character from the Fast & Furious franchise, fully embracing the thrill of speed while blissfully ignoring the risks. Both A Thursday and Dhoom Dhaam demonstrate that Gautam deserves to play a totally unhinged character. How about a serial killer? There is a madness in her eyes that's equally exciting and menacing.

Seth generates a strong momentum and takes you on a high-speed ride, at least for a while. The energy dissipates as soon as Koyal starts preaching. Did we really need a speech that could have been titled "Why Women Lie" in the middle of great urgency? Why can't filmmakers have fun with their films? What's the deal with this obligation behind "opening the audience's eyes?" It's not that movies are incapable of, well, opening our eyes. It's just that not every filmmaker has the skill to blend good intentions with a good story. This is why most of them end up preaching. The people who made Dhoom Dhaam should have recognized their limits. As Koyal goes on and on about the harassment women face in their daily lives, you sense that the film is losing its energy. It's as if someone had put their feet on the brake when they should have pressed the accelerator to keep the ride going. It's a terrible miscalculation - a problem that Seth never manages to fix. The experience is further spoiled when a security guard (Mushtaq Khan) basically underlines what the film is doing with its story. Dhoom Dhaam is about a couple who have an arranged marriage and go on a journey of discovery and romance simultaneously. The watchman makes explicit what the action itself is very capable of revealing. Sadly, Seth doesn't have much faith in the audience or his filmmaking.

Dhoom Dhaam doesn't have the frenzied pitch of Uncut Gems or the breathless tension of Speed. Seth's effort reminds you of Aasmaan Bhardwaj's Kuttey and Devang Shashin Bhavsar's Blackout. Those movies used chaotic events to sell "clever twists," though they merely looked chaotic for all the wrong reasons. Dhoom Dhaam, too, creates an illusion of cleverness and chaos to sell something thin. It runs out of juice long before reaching the finish line. Still, Gautam and Gandhi make for a winning team. They carry you through the rough patches and keep the movie alive. Without the two actors, Dhoom Dhaam would have been sorely uninteresting.

Final Score- [2.5/10]
