Dragon Sakura starts with a homeless lawyer being rescued by his ex-student. The lawyer used to give the best results regarding admissions to the University of Tokyo. After a bad event, he abandoned everything and lost his sense of direction.

The homeless and jobless lawyer was recruited by his student to work for a school that had poor academic performance. There was a lot of politics going on between the person who owned the school and his daughter. Also, the staff was divided upon the future of the institute. If Sakuragi became successful in delivering a good result, it was pre-decided that the school would be sold.

A mixture of politics and ambitions makes the show interesting. With the constant addition of characters, it does make it difficult for one to learn the names. Also, being ten episodes long, with each being over 50 minutes, it was troublesome keeping one’s focus on what was being shown.

Sakuragi’s introduction in the series was inconsistent and only with time do we come to know of his true intentions and efforts. The man is a gem willing to do everything for his students. Apart from that, he has the great power to transform bad individuals into decent human beings.

The power of technology has been so much used in Dragon Sakura that I began to wonder about multiple ways it can be used to deliver justice. Whenever you see that a person is being wronged, the next obvious scene is a video showing the actual incident. The characters sure know how to deal with mischievous people.

The most heart-touching scene was the one in which Kaede was denied a chance in the Olympics due to the plotting done by her badminton partner and her coach. She suffered a lot just to fulfill her parent's wishes. Sakuragi had his eyes on her from day one and he helped her a lot.

This series is a good pick for the students looking for some motivation. This too was overdone in the last part. Effective words from a teacher motivate students to work their best, but after every scene, powerful speeches come to the audience. What would have worked better was a scene, although a long one but potent.

In all Dragon Sakura doesn’t show many things and has a simple plot. You shouldn’t expect much from it, and to grasp the essence of it, just starting two and the last two episodes are sufficient. You’ll be impressed by Sakuragi as his layers are revealed one by one. What the man does best is to identify talented students and shine their skills.

He did save a lot of children by making their future brighter, but he too many times found himself surrounded by chaos. The old man is gutsy and the actor playing it carries the whole show on his shoulders. To watch something motivating, the audience can choose better and shorter movies or series that come straight to the plot rather than hovering around it.

Final Score – [5/10]
