‘Ginny & Georgia’ Season 2, Cast Drops Hints

Ginny and Georgia dropped on Netflix on February 24th, 2021, but fans of the show are already clamoring for news of season two. Netflix hasn’t yet confirmed if there will be a second season of ‘Ginny & Georgia’ but we can positively expect season 2 of the show is in the pipeline, but the streaming service usually waits a few weeks after a series premiere before making an announcement.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, and even before that, Netflix has been much more unpredictable about when it announces renewals and cancellations. Generally, we have to wait months for some renewals and no time at all for others. 

Things look good for a Ginny and Georgia season 2 renewal. It’s incredibly popular, and that’s a big part of the equation for getting renewed.

There were some problematic scenes and storylines in the first season that caused some controversy. That could be a reason for the hold-up on the renewal, but that’s unclear.

Ultimately, I can’t see Netflix canceling this series. It’s too popular right now. We know production is much more expensive during the pandemic, but still, this show has tons of fans.

Show creator Sarah Lampert has expressed her hope for more episodes, telling Oprah Magazine: "Season one really did feel like a season one."

"We just started uncovering some of the layers for all characters, across the board that we want to dive into. Deb [J. Fisher, the showrunner] and I are hoping we get the chance. The relationship between Ginny and Georgia is the third character in the show.“It lives on its own. It's constantly changing and evolving. There are so many scenes where the two of them are communicating with each other over everyone's head. They're intrinsically wound."

What can we expect in season 2?

There have been many queries from the audience about how the first season got to the end. The biggest of all is whether Ginny and Austin flee off together or not? And where are they heading? What about the relationship between Ginny and Marcus. Season 2 can answer all these uncertain questions.

Though it’s unclear where Ginny is headed, there’s lots of speculation that she’s on her way to Zion’s place. Gentry (Ginny) suggested that may be true in an interview with TVLine, pointing to the “Easter eggs” that were dropped when Ginny made up her mind to leave.

Gentry continued, “I don’t know if you notice, but when she’s packing her bag, she grabs the book that Zion gives her, and if you were paying attention when Zion arrives and is giving her the book, you know that he included an address. He has that secret coded message in it, and she finds out that it’s his address to his Boston apartment. So I’m thinking it’s pretty reasonable to assume that Ginny might be headed toward Zion, but I don’t want to tell people what to think, even though the clues are all there.”

Season 2 may give clarity about the confusion on Austin and Ginny’s relationship. Also, it is reported that Season 2 will showcase the return of Austin’s dad. The show has a lot of characters, and every character is written so beautifully.

At the time of this writing, Netflix has not approved a second season of the show.

If it does, it seems possible that the next season could come out sometime in 2022. Generally, shows put out a new season around the time the previous one came out. But even if it did get renewed, with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, which has caused several production delays, it may come out later.
