Netflix has confirmed that the upcoming limited series ‘Inventing Anna’ from Shonda Rhimes will arrive in the first quarter of 2022. Many were hoping it to arrive in the 3rd quarter of 2021, but Netflix has decided to push it to the next year, even when everything related to the series is complete.

There was a lot of speculation regarding its released date, but with a little delay in production due to COVID in early 2020, the series wrapped up filming in Nov. last year. The series first began filming in 2019. The series will have 1-hour 10 episodes and it has the potential to be the Netflix next Queen's Gambit in terms of viewership and popularity.

The series will follow Anna Delvey. When a journalist with a lot to prove investigates the case of Anna, the Instagram-famous German heiress who stole the hearts and money of New York's social scene. Is Anna New York's biggest con woman, or is she just the new face of the American dream? A dark love-hate bond forms between Anna and the reporter as Anna is awaiting trial and our reporter is fighting the clock to answer the biggest NYC question: who is Anna Delvey?

Based on Jessica Pressler's New York Magazine article "How Anna Delvey Tricked New York’s Party People," the series stars Julia Garner as Anna Delvey, Anna Chlumsky as Vivian, Katie Lowes as Rachel, Laverne Cox as Kacy Duke, and Alexis Floyd as Neff. David Frankel serves as director and executive producer on two episodes, including the first. Jessica Pressle also serves as a producer.

The cast also includes Arian Moayed as Todd, Anders Holm as Jack, Anna Deavere Smith as Maud, Jeff Perry as Lou, Terry Kinney as Barry, and Jennifer Esposito as Talia Mallay.

Based on the romance novels by Julia Quinn, Shondaland’s Bridgerton recently became superhit on Netflix and was watched by 82 Million member households worldwide in its first 28 days. Bridgerton Season 2 is currently filming and set to launch in 2022. Netflix has already renewed Bridgerton for the third & fourth seasons. Netflix has also ordered a Bridgerton spin-off series based on the origins of Queen Charlotte from Shondaland. Shonda Rhimes will write this series and also serve as executive producer.

Netflix and Shondaland Media just signed a pact, which will allow Netflix to exclusively produce, stream and distribute feature films as well potential gaming and VR content.

Below are the full descriptions of the characters appearing in the limited series, ‘Inventing Anna.’

JULIA GARNER is playing “ANNA DELVEY.”

A young woman in her mid-twenties with a difficult-to-place European accent takes New York by storm. Anna, whether a brilliant businesswoman or a master scammer, inspires loyalty, compassion, contempt, and obsession – all while leaving an emotional body count.

ANNA CHLUMSKY is playing “VIVIAN.”

A reporter attempting to save her career with the right story. The Anna Delvey story is her golden ticket, and she is willing to go through any obstacle to obtain it. But, as she works on the Anna story, she encounters an unexpected problem: Anna herself. The more Vivian pursues the truth about Anna, the more she grows attached to her.

KATIE LOWES is playing “RACHEL.”

Rachel, a born natural follower, almost destroys her work, her credit, and her life with blind worship of Anna. While her dealings with Anna are her biggest regret, Anna can make her the woman she became the greatest creation because of Anna.

LAVERNE COX is playing “KACY DUKE.”

As a famous trainer, Kacy is drawn into the Anna whirlwind, but is mature and centered to be able to escape any serious trouble. After the crimes committed by Anna, Kacy finds herself becoming more than Anna's coach when she least expects it.

ALEXIS FLOYD is playing “NEFF.”

Neff knows New York and its people as an aspiring filmmaker as a hotel concierge. Neff is more complex than most, it is all styles, all substances. She is drawn into the charm of Anna, but she's not foolish while she's passionate and faithful.

ARIAN MOAYED is playing “TODD.”

Anna's lawyer is a quick-witted family man with working-class roots. Todd needs Anna just as much as she needs him, given the high-profile nature of the case and his need to earn the respect of his legal peers.

ANDERS HOLM is playing “JACK.”

Supported by a dry sense of humor, Jack is in harmony with his wife, making her loveable even when they are angry. But Jack finds it difficult and more difficult to sync with Vivian as her obsession with Anna becomes more and more likely to succumb to her.

ANNA DEAVERE SMITH is playing “MAUD.”

Alone Maud as the only woman in the room climbed to the top of her field. But now she's out there because the magazine's idiots aren't old sufficient to remember how brilliant she is. Maud is sharp, funny, and often too sharp but that's what makes up her helpful and honest nature.

JEFF PERRY is playing “LOU.”

Lou is the unofficial king of Scriberia, a group of writers at the magazine who are deemed too old and out of touch to do "real work," but too respected to fire. Lou's personal life is a shambles, but his awards keep him warm.

TERRY KINNEY (Billions) is playing “BARRY.”

Barry is a Scriberian by choice – he'd rather wither than cover pop culture as a war correspondent with no war to cover. Barry, sarcastic, charming, and endowed with a dark sense of humor and a razor-sharp tongue, has no qualms about saying what no one else will.
