Her Mother’s Killer Season 2, for very obvious reasons, picks up from where it left off, but doesn’t leave a mark the way the first one did. The plot resumes with Analía continuing her battle against Guillermo León Mejía as he continues his way towards manipulating public opinion and twisting narratives, even though he has met his downfall. And this is what continues throughout season 2. I understand that whatever was started in the first season needs to reach an end, but all this gets boring as the rest of the plot of the second season is just a mirror of the first season.  While Analía is now thinking of rebuilding her life, it seems like life has its own plans. Mejía is now eyeing revenge and is hell bent to claim political power. His campaign not only plans on winning but also destroying Analia’s image, which she has built by portraying herself as a victim. So now Analia has two things to keep in mind: first, she has to keep in check Mejía no matter what, and second, she has to face Paulina Peña, an assassin and a fearless ally of Mejía.

Now I must add one thing: there are many episodes of this season. This is a big drawback because each episode is almost 45 minutes long, and the season contains 67 episodes. All these could have been wrapped in a couple of episodes, but god knows what prevailed over the makers to drag the show this long. Here I thought only Indian daily soaps stretched. There are many twists and turns in the show, which makes it fun to watch initially, but after a point, that too tires you out. A good plot isn’t about giving jump scares to the audience; it’s about gaining them through a good plot. Here, the twists and turns feel like a bait to catch our attention, the moment it feels as if we are losing it. We witness blackmailing, suicides, and lots of heartbreaking loss of near and dear ones. But to be honest, this isn’t something new. It's the same. Many political dramas have the same plot, be it in any language. After watching, I also felt Cristina’s character could have been developed more. It just feels abrupt and cut short.

So all in all, while the show is good to watch, it’s not a brilliant watch. It gives us just enough to keep us hooked. Of course, some executions have been really good to watch, for example, the addition of Paulina Peña adds more layers and depth to the show. The character is clever and dangerous, and a perfect addition to the overall vibe of the show. There is less melodrama, so it’s safe to say that the writing is balanced. Hence, this season ensures that the entire conflict of the first season goes on to the next level. It does try to give us a taste of survival in harsh political times, although some big gaps have not been fulfilled properly.

Final Score- [4/10]
