Netflix has officially confirmed and renewed the Swedish coming of age series, Young Royals for a second season. Netflix shared a video of the cast, who were very excited while making the announcement confirming ‘Young Royals’ Season 2, which will arrive in 2022.

The announcement of the renewal comes before the Netflix TUDUM event on Saturday which will see a wide range of shows and related announcements. The performance of the series has even exceeded the expectations of Netflix, which made the streamer taking this decision.

We were the first to confirm this news more than a month back via our contact. We revealed that ‘Young Royals’ was given the greenlit (internally) for the second season soon after the first month's viewership data was out. The series was on the top of the charts in the country of its origin, Sweden, along with being very popular in neighboring Nordic countries - Denmark and Norway. The series gained a lot of viewers in Ukraine, Russia, the UK, and Finland as well.

‘Young Royals’ has earned widespread praise for its LGBTQ+ representation and bringing out a gay relationship in the center of its story. Apart from the story-centric LGBTQ+ representation, the show has also been lauded for 'realistic' portrayals of teenagers having 'acne' and 'awkward sex' and avoiding cliches and typical YA tropes.

The series stars Edvin Ryding as Prince Wilhelm of Sweden, Omar Rudberg as Simon Eriksson, Frida Argento as Sara Eriksson, Malte Gårdinger as August of Årnäs, and Nikita Uggla as Felice Ehrencrona. The cast also includes Pernilla August as Queen Kristina of Sweden, Carmen Gloria Pérez as Linda, Ivar Forsling as Crown Prince Erik of Sweden, Nathalie Varli as Madison McCoy, Ingela Olsson as Hillerska Headmistress Anette Lilja, and Inti Zamora Sobrado as Ayub.

Lisa Ambjörn, Lars Beckung, and Camilla Holter will be the showrunners based on the screenpaly written by Lisa Ambjörn (head writer), Pia Gradvall, Sofie Forsman and Tove Forsman.

Lisa Berggren Eyre and Martin Söder from Nexiko are the producers with Lars Beckung of Nexiko as executive producer.
