Rautu ka Raaz is based on a small town Rautu which lies in Mussoorie. A school for disabled children is run by an affluent individual, Kesari. The warden of this school died on the day after Dussehra. In the beginning, it was thought that the death happened due to natural causes but the postmortem report changed this belief. Her death was classified as a suspicious death and due to the pressure being built on the police officers, the body had to be returned.

An investigation was launched and the officer heading it is played by Nawazuddin. By looking at the first half of the movie, the audience can easily figure out that the success of the movie totally relies on his shoulders. There were not many reliable factors to make it a good title. Bland acting by co-stars and underutilization of the shooting location were still small factors as what will disturb you the most is its plot.

A murder mystery in a small town situated in the Himalayas could've done wonders instead what is shown is poor dialogue and the same substandard script. Nawazuddin and his team investigate the case despite the pressure and all along the film whoever you think is the culprit turns out to be innocent.

What follows this mediocrity is unnecessary heartfelt scenes. There was no such place for it because of the genre. You can't lead the audience to a murder mystery and then end it with the goodness or the humanity an officer carried in his heart. A murderer is always a murderer and even thinking of letting him/her go doesn't go in favor of either the script or the message you're spreading across the audience.

The ending felt like a tight slap to the executive branch of the government. No matter what an officer faces in his/her personal life, letting go of a criminal is a crime in itself, and if the writer thought that it would strike a chord in the hearts of the audience then, it's better to stop having such vague ideas.

In all, the word disappointment is par below what shall be used to describe Rautu ka Raaz. Filled with elements like differently-abled kids, conspiracy, corruption, and politics good things were expected. Nawazuddin delivered his best and the way he molded himself into the officer's role is commendable. The actor's caliber is much higher than the script he'd been asked to play and this will be evident by the regret the audience will feel after spending almost two hours on this movie.

There are many scenes in which Nawaz’s character is seen saying Ram-Ram and when one doesn't reply he gets angry. We understand if just one or two scenes about it were added however, what's with the repetition? If one doesn't exchange the greetings, his character gets angry and taunts the one in front. The movie failed on multiple levels and didn't possess any potential.

Final Score – [3.5/10]
