Amazon and Legendary's popular sci-fi series ‘The Expanse’ season 6 has completed the filming (officially on May 7) in Toronto, Canada. The final season of the series which started filming back in January 2021 took less than 4 months to complete the final reunion of the cast and crew.
Season 6 was supposed to complete the filming in the last week of April as per the schedule plan but it got extended to the second week of May, which has now concluded. We do not have any images to show how the final day of the filming was, but we can understand it must have been very emotional for the cast, which has been working together for more than six years.
The Expanse was renewed for season 6, days before the premiere of season 5 along with the news of Cas Anvar not returning for the sixth season due to the controversy of sexual misconduct allegations on him. Anvar's character Alex Kamal was shown to be dead in the last minutes of season 5, which gave the character a farewell and confirmed that he is not returning for the final season.
The Expanse season 5 ended with the climax of Marco Inaros' plan: having delivered the protomolecule to a defector faction from Mars, the Free Navy and their new allies are able to overwhelm the Martian warships guarding the Ring. Admiral Sauveterre and Lt. Babbage is confirmed to have been collaborators in Marco's terrorist plot and are shown exiting the Ring headed for the planet Laconia, where other rogue Martians are building a mysterious ship using Ring Builder technology.
In an interview with collider Steven Strait teased what fans can expect in the upcoming season 6, “The end of the season at the end of the finale, I think in every conceivable way it really sets up what will become the defining conflict that decides the way the system will function and how people will live within it. Mars who nobody would ever think would deviate from the program for Mars, the most kind of staunchly nationalistic, patriotic blah blah blah blah falling to pieces, parts of it are breaking apart and siding with Marco, and what they're doing with the protomolecule and how that's shaping the way things are going to be, it has completely flipped the script. And I think the end of the season really, really sets that up in a really... Viewers are going to be thrown into what is being set up here.”
Season 6 cast lead by Steven Strait will return with Wes Chatham, Frankie Adams, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Cara Gee, Dominique Tipper, Keon Alexander, and Jasai Chase Owens. Naren Shankar is the showrunner.
With the post-production still to go, Season 6 will premiere this year in December on Amazon Prime Video. It will be interesting to see if the streamer again adapts the formula of the weekly release schedule for the episodes.
