‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ Season 3 - Is It Getting Renewed? An Analysis With Netflix Numbers

The second season of ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ was able to impress the fans as well as the critics just like its first season, but is it enough to secure a third season?

Currently streaming on Netflix, the second season of The Lincoln Lawyer arrived in two parts. Its first part premiered on July 6, 2023, and the second part arrived on August 3, 2023. Based upon the Mickey Haller book series by Michael Connelly, The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 finds the hotshot lawyer Mickey taking on the case of a chef named Lisa Trammel, who is accused of murdering local developer Mitchell Bondurant. I liked both seasons of this series, and in my review of the second season, I gave both parts a rating of 7.5 out of 10.

What's so appealing about The Lincoln Lawyer is that its scenes run smoothly, and the characters deliver their lines fluently. This show is the epitome of mechanical perfection, and you can binge-watch both its seasons without feeling exhausted. Of course, I want a Season 3, but will the show return for a third time?

There has been no official confirmation yet, but if the series will be renewed for Season 3, it will be based on The God of Guilt in Michael Connelly's book series. This information was confirmed by co-creator and showrunner Ted Humphrey to TV Insider.

If we take a look at the viewership numbers, The Lincoln Lawyer Part 2 drew 6.7M views and 55.2M watch hours for the week of July 31 to August 6. This brings the second season's overall figure to 23.3M. Also, because of Part 2, the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer now occupies the sixth position in the Global Top 10 chart and has brought in 2.1M views. Do these numbers increase the possibility of renewal? Let's compare the figures with other action/thriller/drama shows.

The Night Agent generated 168.71 million hours of worldwide views over its first four days, and in the second week, it collected over 216.4M views. Within 25 days, it emerged as the sixth-most viewed series with 605.62M total hours. These numbers are incredibly greater than that of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2's.

Let's consider The Diplomat, which got Keri Russell a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards. It stayed in the global Netflix Top 10 list for four weeks and generated 173.46M watch hours. The Diplomat was released on April 20, 2023, and if you look at the data between April 17-23, you will find that the show has 57.48M watch hours, which is still greater than the numbers of The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2.

So if we make a conclusion on the basis of watch hours, The Lincoln Lawyer's chance to return for a third season seems a bit uncertain. Thankfully, the renewal process is not always based on these numbers. Moreover, Part 2 was just recently released on Netflix, and its numbers can go up in the future.

In terms of its reception, The Lincoln Lawyer currently holds an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes (based on 9 critic reviews), while the audience score is 86% (based on 100+ ratings). The ratings of the first season are comparatively lower (but it has more review data), but overall, the score of both seasons is above 80%.

Ultimately, the renewal process can get delayed due to the ongoing strikes, so until any official news comes from Netflix's side, you can enjoy the first two seasons on the streaming platform.

Created by David E. Kelley, The Lincoln Lawyer is about Mickey Haller, who works in the back of his Lincoln Navigator as he takes on cases in Los Angeles.
