For this series, I will generate my warning beforehand. Watch only if you can because this, in no way, is an easy watch ever. The story follows the life of Gabrielle Vega, a survivor who is now on the quest for justice. Gabrielle Vega was looking forward to a trip to Morocco with Manuel Blanco Vela. Vega conducted research before deciding to take on the trip with a group. Initially, the trip took place as expected. However, one evening, he suggested the group stay inside the hotel as it was too dangerous to roam outside. He even offered drinks to the girls and started asking weird questions. That is when things started to become abnormal. Gabrielle Vega felt heavy and drowsy and decided to sleep. But when she woke, she noticed that the room was empty. When she was using the restroom, that is when Manuel came and molested her. Once back in Montana, her family began to notice that she wasn’t her usual self. How could one trip change their daughter completely? Like many survivors, Gabrielle Vega kept things to herself. But one day, two and a half years after the incident took place, the brave heart decided to open up to her mother. Now Gabrielle Vega was determined to get justice. Soon enough, she found many women like her whom Manuel Blanco Vela had harassed. The makers show us the voices of the women who narrate to us the entire incident. Slowly and steadily, many survivors come out of the trauma to tell us their experience with the same predator.
So, first things first, this is indeed a very powerful documentary. A big shoutout to Gabrielle Vega and her family for coming out in the open to talk about the incident. This wouldn’t have been possible if she hadn’t taken the step to speak up. I am sure so many other women will be getting inspired by the incident to talk about what happened to them. Doing this takes great courage, and together they have all come on an international platform to talk about it. This is something that very few can do, and these women have shown us what bravery in its true form means.
What I also liked was the fact that the makers use imagery to depict us and support the stories of the survivors. This gives us a clear picture of the visualization of what exactly happened on the faithful day. Even with all this going on, pacing doesn’t really matter, yet the makers have made it evenly paced for us to understand what is happening and for the narrator to narrate her story with her emotions.
Another thing that moved me was how depressing it becomes for the survivors to experience something so horrific. Finding the courage to open up to one’s own family, especially when you don’t know how to explain things to them, is also tough. This is exactly what The Predator of Seville shows us: the experience of those who need to be heard. So if you are sure this won't trigger you, watch it only then. And even if that isn’t the case, this is an overall good watch because of the brave Gabrielle Vega and her experience that led to other women speaking up. It is only because of these incidents that we become more and more aware.
Final Score- [8/10]
