The Stone starts as a grave. A man is shot in his car. This sets the plot for something serious. But the main character of the story is Ake, a freshly graduated student from university. His life is far from being easy. His father, a former police officer, is admitted to the hospital, and the family is facing difficulties paying for the hospital. Ake starts going through his father’s things in the hope of finding something that can relieve the burden. In this process, he stumbles across a box containing a dusty amulet of Thailand’s folklore tradition. In order to understand what he found out, he decided to go online to gather more knowledge about the same. He finds many traders and collectors online until he stumbles upon Seng. Seng is a YouTuber who claims to be getting pictures of thousands of such amulets, and he finds out if they are real or not. Ake, not knowing what he has, decides to sell the collection to him once he receives a green single from Seng regarding the legitimacy of the amulets.  He is hopeful and slightly relieved that at least some of the bills might be cleared.

The moment he is about to close the deal and sell the same to Seng, Muay, the daughter of Thailand’s respected amulet authority, enters. She is a smart woman who knows her business.  It is because of her that Ake understands that the price Ake was about to get for the collection is very low, and actually, these amulets are precious.  It is from this point in the plot that we understand that the entire movie becomes a cat and rat chase, and instead of his problems being solved, Ake falls into deeper trouble. You will find everything that you are looking for, con artists, ulterior vested motives, along with lots of chasing.

The issue with this movie is that it is not well executed. It could have been no doubt, but it isn’t. It had a mystery that was, without a doubt, the star of the plot. But this mystery has not been utilized well. This, in return, affects the pacing as the makers try hard to over-explain the happenings of the events in the film, which makes it very boring to watch.

When it comes to acting, singer and actress Korranid Laosubinprasoet shines in the movie. She is fun and quirky, which makes the film worth watching. She is a total natural for the plot. Wherever the movie got too serious, her character of Muay was a breath of fresh air. She gives us exactly what we wanted to see on the screen. Apart from that, Jaonaay Jinjett Wattanasin as Ake looks sweet too. As a distressed young college graduate trying to figure out how to pay the mounting bills of his father, he seems compelling in his role. Through his acting, somewhere, we do pity the boy for what he is undergoing. With him, we feel happy when he is happy, finding the amulets. And again with him, we feel sad when he gets into trouble for being in possession of a precious collection.  The supporting cast of the film also does a great job in giving some comedic relief and seriousness as and when the script demands.

The dialogue of the film is fine. They could have been better. The comic part gives us some fun banter, but overall, if you are looking for some power-packed, touching dialogues, then this might not be for you. Overall, this movie is a one-time watch. You can watch it for the actors, but be ready because in between, there are chances of getting slightly bored when the chase goes on and on.

Final Score- [5/10]
