‘You People’ Netflix Movie Review - Watch It For The Comedy!

‘You People’ is Netflix’s new romantic comedy that was recently released. The movie stars Jonah Hill, Eddie Murphy, Lauren London, Nia Long, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and many others. The film is directed by Kenya Barris, and he has also participated in the writing of the film along with Jonah Hill. The two have also produced the movie along with Kevin Misher. The movie has a run time of 1 hour and 58 minutes and has romance and comedy as its major genres.

‘You People’ tells what happens when two LA millennials from different family and cultural backgrounds fall in love and have to meet their parents. The couple Ezra and Amira who meets by accident falls in love and decide to take the relationship to the next level. That is when they are hit with the realities of cultural differences and family acceptance. The film puts forward the difficulties faced by couples who belong to different races and cultures accompanied by lots of comedy elements which make the movie entertaining to watch.

This is one of those films that will make you laugh throughout. The writer has done an extremely good job with the comedy elements in the movie. The actors also have done a good job portraying the characters but the one that steals the show is Julia Louis Dreyfus. She delivers an abundant amount of comedy and is the funniest character in the story.

The film story however is quite average. It is simply basic and seems like a recycled story, but surprisingly the film still has managed to bring in uniqueness. It has managed to bring an effect of genuineness within the characters. One good thing the film has done is that they have stuck to the major element that they wanted the audience to experience. Open conversations about races that are included in the film make it different and more real. But apart from all this, the comedy element stands out the most, and it makes the movie worth a watch.

The movie has been straight about a lot of facts which can lead to controversies. But the makers have taken that step and this makes the film what it is and unique from other works. Although the film has done exceptionally well in these areas, it could have also given the supporting characters more significance. The side characters had a good amount of potential to contribute to the storyline, but the makers have sort of ignored this factor.

The two hours the audience spends with this movie will certainly be worth it. It displays the beauty of today’s relationships, calls out some facts about society, and wraps many other elements in this compact film. You people offer us the awkward, funny, and heartfelt moments we as humans experience with our fellow people be it, family or friends. The film beautifully and respectfully gives out the message of how everyone should treat each other as individuals independent of their race, culture, and skin color.

Despite the tiny flaws, the movie manages to make itself onto the must-watch list. This film deserves to be watched for its amazing comedy more than for anything else. ‘You People’ is a perfect movie to watch with family and friends since besides the comedy it also gives out some important messages.
