Blood Legacy is about the family who owns Spear Industries. It's a successful business but lately, there's been trouble. The head of this business is involved in shady deals and is more like a gangster. The series is inspired by Monarca, a Mexican show, and has a total of twenty episodes with a duration of approximately 25 minutes each. Khanyi is called back by her father, the CEO of Spear Industries. He wants her to take the CEO position after him and why did he approach his daughter rather than his son because of his corrupt and bad habits? The family doesn't take this decision well and the brother too has a problem with the succession laid down by his father. Chaos breaks after Khanyi’s return to her homeland. It wasn't going to be easy for her to take the reins of the business in her hand. The series is about the deep-rooted problems this family has and how they're ready to cross all boundaries for power.
There are many characters involved in the show and since there weren't any time constraints, they've shown the lives of all family members. It doesn't work for the audience if you show so many characters at once. Take for example how the show began because there was no introduction given and the writers quickly landed on the main plot. It would've been nice if some time was given to add a little bit of background story. Khanyi’s father died a mysterious death and it's not clear who murdered him. The show had introduced mystery in its first two episodes yet, it wasn't carried well. Khanyi's brothers could've been easily behind that since they were in disagreement with the decision regarding the company. In my opinion, this series is a bit overstretched and overwhelming.
The performances delivered by the actors also didn't do any justice. The actor playing the role of Khanyi needed to be strong-minded with confident body language. She lacked all the characteristics and it didn't feel like her character had the courage and power to take over her enemies. The conviction was missing which ruined the fun. Had she been shown in a better way, the series would have turned out better. The same goes for the evil people of the family whose roles weren't delivered. Apart from the lengthy plot, the poor acting was another reason why I didn't like the show from the beginning.
The show isn't worth the time and since there's an open ending, the second season cannot be ruled out. Throughout the show, glamour has been the focus. In the last episode, there's a scene in which Khanyi can be seen with her lover. This romantic scene soon turns out to be a nightmare for her partner as she reveals information about his father's death. They're both having a romantic time and boom here comes a truth bomb. Couldn't the writers find a better timeline to deliver this twist? Many many things are dropping randomly and making the audience think about the disorganized plot.
Final Score – [3/10]
