Marvel Studios seems to be looking forward to forming new teams of superheroes and leaving behind the older ones. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ is also going through the same phase as it is not only the final movie in the GOTG series, but it will also mark the end of this colorful but weird team of the Guardians.
Director James Gunn confirmed in an interview that GOTG Vol. 3 will be the last time people will get to see this team together. “I just want to be true to the characters, the story and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story,” said Gunn to Deadline. “That’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
He continued, “It’s big; it’s so, so big and dark and different from what people might be expecting it to be. I’m aware that the third film in most trilogies sucks; not always.”
In a Twitter post, Gunn has previously teased the death of one of the main characters of the Guardians of the Galaxy. He has not revealed who will be this character, but rumor says it will be Dave Bautista's Drax who will die. So as Gunn is saying, we might get to see a darker film as compared with GOTG Vol. 2.
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Yondu played by Michael Rooker sacrificed his life to save Star-Lord. Gunn previously confirmed that he will stay dead, and his sacrifice will not be depreciated. "As I've said many times before, as long as I'm a part of the Guardians, Yondu is dead, 100%, forever, no magic resurrections, Any other way would be belittling his sacrifice and what his story means to so many people."
Presently, MCU seems to be heading towards a new group of heroes and setting up the Young Avengers. Ant-Man 3 will reportedly be the last time we see Ant-Man on the big screen, the film is all set to introduce Scott Lang's daughter Cassie Lang, who will later become a superhero, "Stature." Previously, Kevin Feige also confirmed that the studio is no longer making long-term contracts like it has done in the past with Robert Downey Jr., Samuel Jackson, or Chris Evans.
Currently filming in Atlanta ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ will see a new character in Adam Warlock played by Will Poulter. The character was previously teased in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 post-credit scene. The film will also see the return of Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, and Sean Gunn in their respective roles.
The plot details for ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ have been kept under the wraps, it is scheduled to release on May 5, 2023.
