Movies Reviews

This happens to be a very typical film when it comes to action scenes. So if you like watching action and fighting goons, read on. Colonel Lee Gunner, a battle-hardened war veteran, decides to reconnect with his two sons on a long-awaited camping trip. Accompanied by their Uncle Jon, the trip is meant to be a chance for family bonding after Gunner's extended deployment. However, their retreat takes a perilous turn when Jon inadvertently triggers a hidden tripwire, setting off a powerful explosion. This explosion inadvertently exposes a massive drug operation run by a ruthless gang of bikers. Lee Gunner played by Luke Hemsworth is a guy who knows his combat skills, which we see every now and then in the movie.

Unaware of Gunner's formidable combat skills, the gang members initially underestimate him. One by one, they fall to his tactical prowess as he methodically dismantles their operation. Obviously, that’s what would have happened in this movie because Gunner is the hero.

Meanwhile, his sons attempt to seek help, only to find themselves captured by Dobbs, the son of Kendric Ryker, the criminal mastermind who controls the gang from behind bars. Yes of all people they just have to be caught by Dobbs.

With his sons in grave danger and no one else to rely on, Colonel Gunner is driven by fury and determination. He embarks on a relentless mission to rescue them, cutting through the gang's defenses with unyielding resolve. His journey leads him through intense confrontations and perilous situations, ultimately bringing him face-to-face with Ryker himself. In a final, climactic showdown, Gunner must confront Ryker and dismantle the criminal empire once and for all to ensure the safety of his family. Will he be able to do it?

The plot of "Gunner" might resemble a classic Bollywood storyline, even though it’s not a Bollywood film. At its core, it features a well-trodden narrative of a hero's quest to protect his loved ones against overwhelming odds. The movie follows Colonel Lee Gunner, a war veteran whose camping trip with his sons and their uncle takes a dangerous turn when an accidental explosion exposes a violent drug operation run by a gang of bikers.

Despite the film’s action-packed sequences and intense confrontations, there are moments when the barrage of action might seem excessive or questionably justified. You might find yourself wondering about the necessity of the relentless combat scenes and their relevance to the overarching plot. The relentless action, though thrilling, sometimes overshadows the deeper emotional and narrative elements, leading viewers to question the ultimate purpose of the chaotic scenes.

As previously noted, if you're a fan of action-packed films, "Gunner" could be a great pick for your weekend watch. The movie delivers high-octane sequences and intense confrontations that action enthusiasts will likely find engaging and thrilling. However, if action isn’t your primary interest, you might find the film less compelling. In that case, it might be worth skipping in favor of something more aligned with your tastes. It doesn’t have anything new to offer.

Luke Hemsworth has done a good job with his acting and action scenes. Morgan Freeman as always, does his job of being a suspicious man. The other cast does a great job. So overall acting wise it is good. However, story-wise there is still a lot of scope left.

Final Score- [5/10]
