If something has been released in theaters, it's just a matter of time in today's world before it reaches every last person, even though they may not be interested in it. Out of the four teasers that were scheduled to premiere weekly with Avatar 3, two of them have already been shown and leaked online. Earlier today, Marvel Studios officially revealed the first teaser that confirms Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers. Now, the leaked Thor teaser has also followed a similar theme, but with a monologue by Hemsworth's character.
The trailer opens with Thor strolling slowly through a misty woodland, wielding his axe Stormbreaker. He appears introspective, with short hair similar to his appearances in Thor: Ragnarok and Infinity War, rather than the longer style from Love and Thunder. This creates a gloomy, grounded tone that recalls Thor's Asgardian heritage. Thor kneels in the woods and starts praying to his late father, Odin, as a voiceover monologue begins. Intercut with the prayer comes a sweet sequence in which Thor kisses the forehead of his daughter, Love (India Rose Hemsworth, reprising her role from Love and Thunder). This scene emphasizes Thor's paternal aspect, portraying him as a guardian rather than a fighter.
The leaked trailer has French dialogue, so not everyone would be able to understand it. However, we do have the dialogues translated, and it follows, "Father. All my life, I have answered the calls of honor, duty, and combat. But destiny has offered me something I never expected: a child. A life preserved from the storm. Grant me the strength of the Father of All Things, to be able to fight one more time, to defeat a new enemy, and to return to her. Not as a warrior, but as a protector. May she not know war, but peace, the kind I have never known. I beg you, Father, hear my prayer."
This prayer alludes to Thor's arc, including his battle past ("honor, duty, and combat"), his unexpected fatherhood ("a child... preserved from the storm," alluding to Love's revival by Eternity in Love and Thunder), and a cry for strength against "a new enemy" (implied to be Doctor Doom). It parallels themes from Thor's previous films, such as his conversations with Odin in Thor (2011) and Ragnarok.
The teaser also gives glimpses of Thor's new MCU suit—described as a more armored, heroic design—which are interspersed. As we have seen in Steve Rogers' trailer, Thor's trailer also concludes with a title card that reads, "Thor Will Return In Avengers: Doomsday," and a countdown timer to the film's official release date.
However, the biggest takeaway from the trailer seems to be the unofficial confirmation of the rumors regarding the film's plotline, which began after the release of The Fantastic Four movie. The Fantastic Four: First Steps post-credits and the Steve Rogers teaser tease that Doctor Doom is after the children of these superheroes. In this teaser as well, Thor seems to remember his daughter, Love, while praying to his father. As the monologue suggests, this could motivate Thor's involvement in the Doomsday event, potentially leading to the need for a bigger sacrifice to protect his child.
So far, the released teasers tease a multiversal threat from Doctor Doom, reuniting legacy heroes like Thor, Steve Rogers, Loki, and others. The family motif suggests a storyline where Doom abducts or endangers young heroes, forcing parents into battle. This builds on post-Endgame themes of legacy and retirement, with Thor's prayer implying high personal costs.
So far, Marvel has kept the plot of the film under wraps, but if we analyze and combine everything revealed so far, the logline should read something like this: "Avengers are scattered, but must assemble one more time as a new danger looms, which is more personal than it has ever been. But who will unite them against an unknown enemy from the multiverse?" This also seemingly confirms a rumor that originated after the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps - Doctor Doom first kidnaps Franklin Richards, knowing his actual true power, and opens up the multiverse, where he picks up the future generation of superheroes. He might be thinking they can help fix something that broke due to the events of Avengers: Endgame. Seeing the possibility of time travel and the multiverse, there is a chance that it might take our superheroes long enough to find Doctor Doom, for their children to grow enough and be ready to fight their own battle.
Or Doom kidnaps the children, thinking they might be his enemy in the future - doubtful, as there cannot be a weaker plot than this. There are two more teasers to go - one focuses on Doctor Doom, while the remaining will be the main teaser for Doomsday. The Thor teaser will be released online next week; till then, watch the leaked trailer below, which is French-dubbed, followed by the AI-created version of the same trailer.
Directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo with Robert Downey Jr., Pedro Pascal, Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Vanessa Kirby, India Rose Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, and more, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, in theaters worldwide.
