“Bridgerton” has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4 by Netflix, the announcement was made today in Lady Whistledown’s Society Papers. Season 3 and 4 will shoot back-to-back with season 2.

Season 2 of the show, which hails from Shonda Rhimes’ Shondaland, is set to start production this month and in keeping with the novels, tells a new romance story. Lord Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, will dominate the social season. Season one star, Regé-Jean Page’s character, the Duke of Hastings, will not appear in the second season.

“‘Bridgerton’ swept us off our feet,” Bela Bajaria, VP, Global TV at Netflix, said in a statement. “The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the ‘Bridgerton’ business for a long time to come.”

Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, Bridgerton is a romantic, scandalous, and quick-witted series that celebrates the timelessness of enduring friendships, families finding their way, and the search for a love that conquers all.

From Shondaland and Creator Chris Van Dusen, Season 1 of Bridgerton follows Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor), the eldest daughter of the powerful Bridgerton family as she makes her debut onto Regency London’s competitive marriage market. Hoping to follow in her parent’s footsteps and find a match sparked by true love, Daphne’s prospects initially seem to be unrivaled. But as her older brother begins to rule out her potential suitors, the high society scandal sheet written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) casts aspersions on Daphne. Enter the highly desirable and rebellious Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), committed bachelor and the catch of the season for the debutantes’ mamas. Despite proclaiming that they want nothing the other has to offer, their attraction is undeniable and sparks fly as they find themselves engaged in an increasing battle of wits while navigating society’s expectations for their future.

“Bridgerton” is executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, and Chris Van Dusen.

Redefining the period drama and romance genres and breaking conventions on race while making global stars out of Page and Dynevor, the adaptation of Julia Quinn’s novel captivated viewers to become one of Netflix’s most-watched series premieres with 63 million households projected to have seen at least a portion of it in the first four weeks.
