Dearest gentle readers, I am sure after part 1, you, just like me, came curiously to see whether Sophie accepted to be the “mistress” of Benedict Bridgeton. As we seen, the tension between Sophie and Benedict continues. For Sophie, this is forbidden as she serves as a maid for the Bridgertons. Meanwhile, Benedict remains unbothered by her position as he simply cares about having her in his life. On the other hand, tragedy strikes the household with John's passing. Suddenly, Francesca’s ensemble becomes a topic of discussion at John’s funeral. It hasn’t been easy for her as Francesca continues to live in guilt for not being able to provide John with a child of his own. Sophie is also trying to find another work, as staying in the Bridgeton household while also having an “affair” with one of their sons is something that can tarnish everyone’s reputation related to her. Another thing that we see is that Mamma Bridgeton has started to have her doubts about Sophie’s true background, given her education and taste in things. Is she finally heading on the right path as we hoped for? What surprised me was how long it took for Benedict to realize who the masked, mysterious lady was, finally. I thought he would never find out, going by his speed. Araminta continues to be in her gray role and gets Sophie arrested for theft, which, of course, is shocking news for all of us. And even after Sophie discloses who her father is, there is a new issue: Benedict is under great self-doubt as to whether things will be good for him and Sophie ahead in life.
But as they say, all’s well that ends well. And just like that, our very own Cinderella story of Benedict and Sophie comes to an end. This season was good, except for the “be my mistress” part. Other than that, the makers and the writers stuck to portraying how a woman can change a man. I was never fond of Benedict and his Casanova image. I absolutely hated that. Thankfully, Sophie changed that. Now, he is one of my favorites, after Lord Anthony, of course.
Overall, I really liked this season. The makers managed to create a lot of suspense in our minds by showcasing a confused Benedict in search of his “Lady in Silver”. His curiosity is what made the season. Other than that, Sophie came across as a very gentle, kind, yet smart woman. For sure, her character is one of the most well-written ones I have found in the show. That is the reason why this season is worth watching. While the elements of the plot have been heavily borrowed from Cinderella, not once did I feel that it was boring. However, compared to the other plots of the previous seasons, this one isn’t that gripping. The previous ones had a big wow factor in them. This one, I don’t know why, is missing that magic that the other seasons beautifully created so far. The last episode felt like a rush as the makers wanted to reveal everything. I also believe that most of the charm has gone now that we know who Lady Whistledown is. Maybe keeping her a secret would have made the show even more interesting than it already is.
But all in all, this was a good watch, given the kind of plots that are coming out nowadays. So, dearest fans, go finish this up, because we now have the other Bridgeton kids and their love stories coming up.
Final Score- [7/10]
