TV Shows Reviews

The ninth episode of the fourth season of Only Murders in the Building begins with Mabel, Charles, and Oliver going to the hospital to meet Glen. They couldn't meet him or find the essential information due to hospital rules and had to come back empty-handed. The other person of interest was Ron Howard, the one who was directing the title where a mishap occurred between Sazz and the killer. We still don't have a theory as to the motives the killer had in mind. The penultimate episode feels like a blessing that the show is going to end. The thrill and fun of finding the killer is missing. The writers have mixed so many things that the result is inedible.

The podcaster trio tries to reach Ron and this episode serves as an attempt to talk to him. They were headed in the right direction as he's the one who'll take you one step closer to the killer. The trio reach the set of Ron’s current title and try to get closer to him. All of their attempts fail and when it was least expected that he'll talk, there he is. With a total duration of 34 minutes, the episode has been done just for the sake of it. Much of the information provided was unnecessary and the audience would have survived without it. Loretta and Oliver are getting married and the latter will receive a memorable bachelor's party (a discrete one). Oliver wanted a banger bachelor's and a homely wedding. Loretta's entering into his life brought him stability and introduced him to a side that he never thought existed. The introduction of this character in the show was dissatisfying as she didn't let the fun and self-obsessed Oliver take much part in the detective work.

In the final moments of the ninth episode, we've got our killer but is he/she the final catch? The previous seasons also told us how the killer’s identity was wrongly identified when in reality it was someone else's work. This time the murder podcasters managed to heavily disappoint the audience by being distracted by other things. Why the focus wasn't that much on the murders as much as it was on other issues? Some people might contradict this opinion and I'm up for discussion. Too many things had to be built up to reach the killer and every step forward towards solving the mystery seemed like we were standing in the same place. This season, the murderer pops out of nowhere and though the audience might have had their doubts about this character earlier, it still feels unbelievable. I didn't expect Charles and Oliver to have this little interest in solving the case as Mabel is the one working hard. The season begins with giving high hopes and gets lost in between introducing so many characters and subplots. The premise of the fourth season was strong and gave the hopes of the best season yet when the opposite happened.

Final Score – [6/10]
