Sci-fi and comedy movie ‘Robots’ starring Shailene Woodley as Elaine and Jake Whitehall as Charles has officially wrapped up filming today in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The filming began in the first week of August.

Casper Christensen along with Whitehall, Woodley, and TT Chen confirmed the filming wrap via their Instagram posts.

The cast also includes TT Chen, Chelsea Edmundson as Emily Denholm, and Emanuela Postacchini as Francesca. Rounding out the cast are Barney Burman, Samantha Ashley, Jackamoe Buzzell, Patrick Burch, Jennifer Ingrum, Hank Rogerson, Case Matthews, Richard Lippert, Paul Jurewicz, David Grant Wright, and Nic Wolfe.

Emma Roberts was originally tapped to star in this film when it was announced back in June 2020, but due to other commitments, she left the project. Woodley replaced her a few months later and now she is leading the movie opposite Whitehall.

“Robots” is a witty sci-fi, comedy set in a near-future America that follows a womanizer, Charles, and a gold digger, Elaine, who dupe people into relations with illegal robots replicas of themselves. When they unknowingly utilize this deception on each other, their robot counterparts fall in love and elope, causing Charles and Elaine to work together to track them down before the authorities figure out what they're up to.

The film is based on the short story by sci-fi writer Robert Sheckley. Anthony Hines (Borat) and Casper Christensen (Klown) have written the script along with directing it.

Stephen Hamel (Replicas, Passengers), who developed the project under his Company Films banner, and Cassian Elwes (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Mudbound) at Elevated are the producers. Jere Hausfater is executive producer.

The producers of Robots chose New Mexico for its terrain and ease of dealing with the New Mexico Film Office. We intend to use facilities in Albuquerque, Belen, Madrid, and Pecos, New Mexico. Following the initial location scouting, the writer and directors revised scenes to complement the locations,” said the producers of Robots at the beginning of production.

The film currently has no release date.
