‘Spooky in Love’ (2026) Netflix Series Review - A Predictable Yet Promising Start

A wealthy heiress can see a ghost who died without getting justice. What happens when she meets a lawyer?

TV Shows Reviews

Though it looks interesting, Spooky in Love is a plot we have seen time and time again when it comes to K-dramas, binding romance, mystery, supernatural fantasy, and crime. The plot revolves around Cheon Yeo Ri, the heiress to one of South Korea’s most powerful conglomerates. Additionally, she is also the CEO of a prestigious luxury hotel. For the world outside, she comes across as someone who is wealthy, successful, and intelligent. However, all is not what it appears to the eyes. Beneath her public image lies a burden that she has been quietly carrying with her for her entire life: she possesses the ability to see ghosts. Every night, restless spirits seek her out, begging for justice, post-meeting with a tragic or violent end. Cheon Yeo Ri doesn’t tell anyone about this for fear that people might not believe her encounters ever. Now comes in the picture Ma Gang Uk, an elite prosecutor who is dedicated to imparting and fighting for justice.  His world revolved around facts, evidence, and law. All is fine until he meets Cheon Yeo Ri with her supernatural abilities. What goes without saying is that these two have opposite personalities. As of now, just the first episode is out, but even in that, there are many elements that could be guessed as and when the scenes unfold.

That is the only issue with Spooky in Love. As mentioned before, this is the kind of plot we have seen plenty of times. And I was hoping for something better and different. But then again, let’s wait for the rest of the episodes to drop, and who knows, we all might be up for a surprise. Having said that, there are many good things too, which I understood in the first episode. For example, the makers don’t wait for the rest of the episodes to reveal all the important characters. Also, the plot unfolds quite a lot in the first episode, thereby ensuring that we aren’t made to wait a while for the next set of episodes to come out.

The supernatural elements actually add the twists and turns that are needed. There are deeper motives that need to be unleashed. Each ghost that comes is here for a reason, mainly to demand justice. Together, through Cheon Yeo Ri as a medium, they wish to get what they lost before leaving the world permanently. That aspect makes it a good watch. The pacing of Spooky in Love is good; however, sometimes it does falter a bit. Some scenes move at a perfect speed, while some can slow down a bit, which can cause a bit of annoyance amongst people. But I feel that is something which can be easily ignored.

The show is also a visual treat for the eyes. The outfit of the cast, the overall background, and the atmosphere of eeriness do manage to give the feels that the makers want us to understand. So all in all, while the plot might be something which you will eventually guess, the show is worth at least one watch to see how the narrative unfolds.

Final Score - [6/10]
