Netflix has revealed an extended main trailer for its upcoming Korean-language violence-packed series "Squid Game." The series will premiere on September 17, on Netflix.
"Squid Game" is an inventive, unconventional drama in which 456 competitors risk their lives in a mystery survival game for a chance to earn a jackpot of 45.6 billion won. The blood and violence in the series look similar to those in Alice in the Borderland, another action-packed Korean-language series.
The main trailer shows the huge scope of the games as well as the chaos experienced by the participants. Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) dials a number from a business card that features a circle, triangle, and square. He later awakens in an unexpected location. The weird environment with storybook colors and graphics is where 456 individuals are assembled who are all in desperate situations.
The field's peaceful appearance and the warm colors stand out in the scenery. However, there is a strange, massive robot on the field, and the players appear terrified and alert. The awful image of people who died, their bodies hung around, creates a strong visual contrast to the gorgeous scenery. Curiosity is heightened by the storybook-like robot girl and the wild games that await the contestants.
Before the games begin, the participants are told, “If you do not wish to participate, please tell us now.” The participants have a choice whether or not to participate in the games, but they do not resist because of the possibility of receiving prize money. When the game starts, the youthful game arena morphs into a chaotic scene filled with shock and screaming. Because the game has already begun, the only way out is to win. In order to earn the prize and stay alive, the competitors will even jeopardize the lives of other contestants. Who will win in such unpredictable and large-scale games? The contestants' squirming and struggling to survive in the lethal activities will make for a compelling story.

Squid Game is directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the versatile and socially sensitive director of The Fortress, Miss Granny, and Silenced. Lee Jung-jae, Park Hae-soo, Wi Ha-Jun, Oh Young-soo, Heo Sung-tae, Jung Ho-yeon, Anupam, and Kim Joo-ryoung bring viewers into the horrific show with rich, nuanced performances that vividly express the compassion of the varied characters who have no choice but to participate in the game.
