REVIEW:
The director Alice Wu and crew brought one of the best modern coming-of-age films and it reminded me of John Hughes. He was the best filmmaker ever in this genre and I can't get enough of his classics. I'm not comparing them because John Hughes is John Hughes but it is nice to feel again his familiar teen drama depth with Alice Wu's movie. This was a great drama with fantastic balanced humor, I took this film very seriously and I enjoyed it. Love how bold and real the narrative was, how it touched tough themes love, choices, acceptance, and hardships to its core. This is not a normal teen drama that unfolds a love story with a predictable ending to satisfy the viewer. All these themes have one thing in common in which is self-discovery, how true and real every action was and these are moments that one experience in real life.

The composer Anton Sanko understood deeply the story because his music goes magnificently hand in hand with the characters. Also, the choice of songs gave the spunk to them and the self-discovery main theme to the film.

All the actors were magnificent especially the main Leah Lewis, Alexxis Lemire, and Daniel Diemer. All three of them stood out immensely, how the character flaws were so beautifully revealed by their expressions. I couldn't get enough, their performances it's so natural and heartwarming. This film doesn't need a sequel but I wouldn't mind another because they are very interesting characters which need more exploration.

Final Score: [8.5/10]
