Plot:
Convinced they’d be better off raising themselves, the Willoughby children hatch a sneaky plan to send their selfish parents on vacation. The siblings then embark on their own high-flying adventure to find the true meaning of family. REVIEW:
The director Kris Pearn and crew brought a vibrant animated adaptation. A beautiful dark comedy, representing the significance and difficulties of being a family. Such a strong heartwarming story in which points out the importance of having always each other. What the children had to overcome to be always together was hard to endure and yet powerful. It was refreshing to watch an animated film having profound problems turning into dark humor with such perky visuals. The tradition of the mustache was one of the glorious moments of the movie, any type of family tradition needs to be always cherished. I love how some parts were based on The Matrix and Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory marking how pop culture keeps giving the muse for every film out there.
The composer Mark Mothersbaugh's music felt right for this sparky story and how I loved when one of the children Jane, sings randomly.
The voice actors were chosen marvelously, I enjoyed every character. Tim (Will Forte) the protector, Jane (Alessia Cara) the passion, Barnaby Twins (Seán Cullen) the creepy ones, Linda "Nanny" (Maya Rudolph) the spirited and loved the baby so adorably, wild and energetic. The best part of the film was the narrator aka The Cat, hearing the voice of Ricky Gervais as The Cat gave it a witty tone.
