Movies Reviews

What do you expect when a massive 50-foot something troll comes out of a government facility? Pure destruction, right? Well, this is what Troll 2 deals with. The film starts from where it left off in the first part. Troll expert Nora and adviser Andreas are now tasked to confront and control this new troll across Norway. However, this creature is no ordinary troll; it is a wrathful behemoth with a big appetite and enormous powers. And with that said, it is obvious that it will unleash its power on the entire city. The issue is that the trio doesn’t know how to handle the Megatroll since it is bigger and much grander this time. Hence, they turn to ancient Norse scriptures in order to find whatever they can and prevent the troll from causing havoc. But the question is: will they be able to save the people? Will ancient history be useful to them? Will they succeed?

Cinematically, the movie has a lot to offer to the viewers. It gives us a lot of mass-scale destruction scenes, as well as the whole Troll, too. That sure requires a lot of creativity and diversity, which we get while watching the film. It does make the whole experience worth watching.  Right from start to end, that one experience clearly isn’t compromised on. It does show well the Troll causing havoc. And without that being shown well, the plot wouldn’t be half as interesting to watch as it became due to this reason.

The only issue is that the plot lacks depth. It isn’t as interesting as it should have been. Much of the plot became highly predictable, which made the experience very frustrating. It is more like we already knew what we were going to get.

Acting-wise, yes, they are a saving grace to the plot that hardly made sense. I did like the idea of turning to ancient knowledge. However, sadly, its execution was very faulty. That creates a big issue when you sit down to watch. Compared to the first one, the second one doesn’t leave as much of an impact as it should have. The First one had more mystery vibes, more drama, and action. This installment lacks all of those. Even the whole character of Megatroll seems to be highly underdeveloped to watch. Therefore, after a while, it feels more like a waste of time to watch it.

Coming to the character development of the plot, that too seems very abrupt, especially that of Nora. She suddenly becomes a full-blown action heroine, which really wasn’t needed as such, yet she becomes one. I want to know what the makers thought while making a plot like this. It just didn’t make any sense. And it goes without saying, the speed of the movie was very slow. Everything was taking its own sweet time to start with. That made the entire movie so frustrating to watch. Overall, this movie can be passed.
