Sci-fi films are great escapist entertainment. They whisk us away to another world where anything goes. Sometimes these worlds happen to be set in casinos and slot games. These scenes are fun to watch as they unravel in cinemas or on your TV screen at home. It’s even better when you imagine what it would feel like if they happened in real life! So, here is our list of seven scenes in Sci-Fi films based in casinos, inspired by well-known ones being Amazon Slots UK

The Island

The Island came out in 2005, starring Scarlett Johansson and Ewan McGregor. It is set on an island where scientists grow clones from whom they harvest organs for a group of rich people. The main character, McGregor, wins a casino-themed lottery and later realizes that he is a clone. It’s a dystopian film and explores the possibility that we might just be able to clone humans one day.

Blade Runner

Blade Runner is the famous 1982 film starring Harrison Ford. It is cast in a future where there are artificial humans, known as replicants, who are exploited as slaves. Ford plays the character Rick Deckhard, a blade runner tasked with finding rascal replicants. There is a scene where he comes across Rachael, also a replicant, at a local casino, where they have a heated exchange. It’s perhaps the most memorable scene in the whole of the film.

Total Recall

This is one of the many films Arnold Schwarzenegger is known for. It is cast in a futurist world where it is possible to upload memories into people’s brains. His character, Douglas Quaid, goes to a casino to test implanted memories. This movie is one of the few sci-fi films that provide viewers with a utopian casino scene. Even though the remake was well received, the original still does a good job of showing what to expect from casinos in the future.

Star Wars, The Last Jedi: Episode 8

Released in 2017, this fiction movie and the 8th in the franchise delivers a scene where the characters Rose and Finn go to a casino on Canto Bight. They bet on “fathiers” – weird-looking creatures found on the planet that are basically a spin-off from horse racing in the real world! This is perhaps the only scene that sets up some light moments. Otherwise, the rest of the film is somewhat darker as you follow the ongoing battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Batman Forever

Batman Forever is the 1995 superhero film: an adaptation of DC Comics starring Val Kilmer. There is a scene where Dick Grayson and Batman visit the casino, “The Penguin’s Lair”, where they set about fighting those typical bad-guy goons. The scene is fun to watch, especially because of its humor and fashion – just look at those costumes.

Hunger Games – Catching Fire

Catching Fire is the second release in the Hunger Games franchise from 2013. In the film, there is a scene where Peeta and Katniss attend an extravagant party organized in the capital. The two then wager on The Hunger Games, and while this is not exactly a casino scene like the others in this list, it is still great fun to watch.

Mad Max: Beyond the Thunderdome

The third movie in the Mad Max trilogy delivered a gambling scene where Max Rockatansky, Mel Gibson, was thrown into a brutal arena with his life hanging on the line. For any fans, you will know that this arena was called the Thunderdome! We see spectators freely betting on Max’s chances of getting out alive in a slightly different casino arena. But an arena that still showcases the act of gambling on an event – albeit this event has a lot more on the line for Mad Max!

Movies and casinos have a long history in one way, shape, or form. As the gambling industry continues to grow, we are likely to see more casino scenes in films, and you might even learn to gamble like they do in the movies!
