The long-awaited second season of AMC’s Interview With a Vampire returns to our screens with a new Parisian adventure, delivering vibrant, compelling characters with an addictive storyline that will please both book and TV fans. The second season is an intriguing follow-up to the successful first season, proving that memory is a monster and something that can’t be fully trusted. Louis (Jacob Anderson) returns with Claudia (now played by Delainey Hayles), seeking out others of their kind, while in the present day, Daniel (Eric Bogosian) continues the interview, now knowing the true identity of Armand (Assad Zaman).
Memory is a monster is the season’s tagline, and truly, season two highlights this through present-day Louis and Daniel. As Louis comes to terms with his memories now making sense, especially the little details, Daniel’s repressed memories are also coming to the surface in a brilliant way. Daniel is emboldened to find the truth of their shared past, all the while he struggles to control the interview now that Louis and Armand have allied themselves together, cementing their love for one another as they explore their past.
Season two is a true continuation of the prior season but with one notable difference. Lestat (Sam Reid) is no longer Louis’s love interest, and it is a role that will now be played by Armand. Where Lestat’s love is all-consuming, Armand’s love for Louis is quieter, explored through their past without being in competition with each love story. Another returning character is Claudia, but with a different actress, and Hayles is another perfect addition to the series. The relationship between Claudia and Louis remains familiar without missing a beat in their dynamic, which is a testament to all involved in the production. Hayes brings a new level of youthful vulnerability and frustration to Claudia, as well as a sense of longing for a vampiric family.
Théâtre des Vampire is where Louis and Claudia find a vampire coven, and with it, they each take something out of it for themselves. Armand is the coven leader, but Santiago (Ben Daniels) is just as captivating, showing the classic style of vampiric seduction on stage that fans of the vampire genre have been without for quite a while. The tension that is built between Louis and Santiago is excellent and perfectly executed, so much so that they should all give a masterclass for on-screen rivals.
The second season of Interview with a Vampire is flawless—a perfect follow-up that offers something new for anyone who watches, be it book fans or casual viewers. The only complaint is the lack of Lestat, but given that he isn’t the main part of this story, it's understandable. From the writing to the performances, Interview with a Vampire is one of the best adaptations to make it to the small screen and leaves you aching for more.
